In Which I Venture Forth
Fri Aug 05 2011

Okay, here we go.

For quite a while I have been mulling over a strategy for selling some of my art and knitting projects. I have considered Etsy, Ebay, and other on line outlets for crafters and found myself cringing at the impersonal, high volume, overloaded atmosphere on those places. And the one local craft fair that I have participated in twice that is held on a Sunday, has raised their table space rent into the, ‘you’ve got to be kidding’ range.

But... I still wanted to put my things ‘out there’.

And here’s the main reason: I have found out that having an outlet, inspires me to create more. [Thus the total clear out of my backlog that you all helped me with! ] I have known that I was going to do SOMETHING in the way of selling one way or the other for several months now, and the energy this gave me has been amazing.

I cannot talk about this subject without giving some credit to Julia Cameron, author of “The Aritist’s Way” series of books. Studying that book with my sister-in-law has changed my creative life. It helped clear out some muddied up channels for me and gave me a certain clarity of direction.

So here is my proposal:

I have set up a Flickr page that right now has two ‘sets’ of photos. There are watercolors and knitted items. They are all for sale. How we arrange the transactions will be private between me and the person interested. No corporate go betweens.

I have put a link on the menu bar [upper left corner of this page] that says ‘Bogwillow Market. This will lead you to the Flickr page.

If you see something you are interested in, email me at the email address posted in the menu box just under the market link and we will discuss it. I have given each item a title, so use that when you email so I know which thing you are interested in.

It will be first come, first served.

Right now, it is my intention to pay the shipping myself as these items are not heavy. Though if it is overseas, then I will need some help with shipping.

The prices will be determined in a rather arbitrary way, which will depend on the quality of the yarn in the piece, and/or how attached I am to a particular item. Other factors involve the time invested in each project. Some paintings for instance are pretty quickly done, and others I work on, [on and off] over two or more days. And though they aren’t shown in the photos, all the greeting card watercolors come with an envelope.

Now, I’m not trying to tease you...

(Oh yes you are, you shameless hussy.)

Okay, maybe just a little...

But this little bag was purchased just today. I’m putting it on here because I am so very fond of it, and hope to make more along these lines. It epitomizes my knitting ‘happy place’ right now.

Yes, those ARE twigs from my peach tree at the top of this little hen pocket.

I’m sure there are details I haven’t thought of that will come up as time goes by, but this is a beginning.

Creating fun and whimsical things makes life worth living in my book. And launching them into the great wide world completes the circle.

You know, I think
I saw a painting of
a hen at that market.
My my, such discerning
taste in art!

Well, at least we have The Hen’s stamp of approval. That’s a relief…

Oh PS… I don't turn on my computer on Saturdays, so won't be answering emails until after sundown on those days...

What a great way to get around all the fees that Etsy and eBay charge! Congratulations on your cleverness. I'm sure your stockpile will be cleared in no time!

I hope nobody takes advantage of you with this set-up, but I really like the flexibility this gives you. I did the same thing on a very limited basis with my Google photo storage last Christmas, but I'm not sure I'm going to follow through with a more complete set-up this coming season.

I really like the new fence, by the way. And how was that Ruby Queen corn? I never saw anything quite like that before.
