Corny Story

Today was corn harvest day.

Here’s the haul:

Here’s ready to cook:

After it was cooked, I cut it off the cob and got five freezer bags worth to eat one day when summer is just a memory.

While I was husking the corn, I gave Ben and Sunny a couple of wonky misshapen ears to chew on. Sunny grabbed it and then spit it right out.
[She prefers her corn cooked]. Ben on the other hand proceeded to de-kernal both little cobs with relish.

And I think I have figured out what happened to my first ripe tomato.

Ben ate it.

Though I could not prove this in a court of law.

My only bit of evidence was the other day I fished a couple of ripe ones out of the middle of the tomato patch and Ben saw them and followed me into the house so excited and leaping about… you would think I was carrying raw steak or something.

I’m keeping my eye on the rest of the tomatoes. Any of them that are Ben face level are going to be scrutinized for signs of molestation.

We had broiled tomatoes over homemade french bread last night. I made garlic toast out of the bread first. My oh my. That’s a summer feast!

Okay, now off to play. My work is done.

You've made me drool all down the front of my shirt with your talk of fresh corn, broiled tomatoes on homemade french bread. Geesh. At least you could offer to share. :o)

My tomatoes are finally ripening, thankfully! The corn you are growing looks much like the corn that fresh corn tamales (elotes) are made of. Roy brought me some yesterday and I ate one, even though corn is a forbidden food. I just couldn't help myself!

Are Ben and Sunny dogs? Only reason I ask is because I found this out via the vet, corn cobs dont digest or break down and get caught in their intestines, so dont feed them to the doggies. Just a pet tip, along with not feeding them onions or chocolate. :)

I've been without a home computer for quite awhile so you haven't missed much. :-) Things are going okay. I'm now both living and working in the city which has been a goal for a long time. Progress! It is a new beginning. More opportunities and interesting things and people. More potential for improvement of quality of life. I just have to begin to venture out a little bit to become part of things. How are you doing? I haven't been able to read and visit for quite a long while. My apartment includes free wifi so I splurged and got myself a little netbook which actually works better than the computers I've had in the last several years. It's great to be back among friends. :-)

I have been drinking iced tea by the pitcherfulls myself. That would definitely go a long way toward explaining the insomnis. I have begun to drink it hot as well. I especially love vanilla chai tea. Coffee has taken a back seat although when winter comes along I know I will be back to drinking it again.
    :-) A

I love that Ben is a veg-head! LOL Beautiful looking corn Deborah. We are stuill waiting for ther tomatoes in Theresa's garden. They planted corn this year too. Their garden doesn;t seem to be doiong as well. I am not sure, but I think they are being skimpy on the water.
