Slay Yer Orks And Be Done With It
Tue Feb 07 2012

This morning I was up early. How early? 4:30 AM in the o'dark thirty early... Foolhardy. I spent a fair bit of time this morning reading some old diary entries and realized that I don't talk about politics much any more. I was a bit obsessed there for a while, I admit it. But somewhere along the line I realized that the train was running off the rails and I wasn't going to be able to stop it. Don't worry. I'll still vote. But I am not wasting any more of my emotional energy on the political situation. I've gone inward. In a good way. Finding out about places of the spirit/mind/soul that need exploring. This is a much better use of my limited energies I must tell you. I am embarking on what I think will be the final round in the de-clutter wars. I've just made a detailed list of 'zones' in the house that I will work on. Small spaces, corners, shelves, and drawers at a time. In this phase I will be asking the hard questions. I found a great list of questions to ask while doing this purge… http://zenhabits.net/identify-clutter/ This round of organization… will require more emotional capital on my part and I'm trying to gear up for it. It's worth it to me, so I'm gathering my reserves before I dive in. There is also the allure of a efficient, pared down, zen like simplicity. It seems like a better way to move through this world. It reminds me of Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli running cross country. They had their important tools strapped to their bodies, that's it. Even though I relate strongly to Hobbits… [good old Sam had a sturdy cooking pot in his backpack, and I'm sure they were cooking bacon over the fire at one point. Somebody had to cary that stuff through the wilderness]… I think I am kin to the cross country crew in temperament. Keep it simple. Make your tools multipurpose ones. Go lightly. Kill Orks when you find 'em. Besides, I do better thinking when my space is calm and ordered. It's ever been thus. What ho?! I think I see an Ork trying to hide behind the orange tree. Excuse me….

I'm back in that mode, too. Get rid of all clutter! Travel light. That is, as soon as I'm well. Your bro has the flu now. Poor guy. Hugs, Tiggs

I can relate on all fronts. Right now there is a bit more clutter in my apartment than usual and it upsetting my sense of balance. I'm all into simplicity.

That is a very good list of questions. I've bookmarked it and am already thinking about some areas that need heavy pruning. I just need to buck up and wield my weapons with more vigor. Like you, I function best in well ordered spaces.
