Panda, who takes up more space than any other creature in this household right now…has been on a vicious little mission to de-eyeball every stuffed dog toy on the premises. I think there are only two eyeballs left, and they aren't on the same toy. After he gouges out the eyes, he proceeds to systematically remove the brains of his latest victim and spreads them all over the living room floor. I decided that the dogs needed to spend some time outside today since the weather is fine. Panda, deprived of his obsession of choice, rooted around out there and found himself a stick, which he is turning into mulch as we speak. To say he has an oral fixation would be an understatement. Though, thank goodness he seems to know what objects are least likely to land him in the dog house for dismantling. I have to give him credit for that bit of self preserving intelligence. I just consulted my Sheltie rescue dog folder that I keep, and Mr. Panda Pants is number eighteen. That's quite a lot of Shelties no? *** On other fronts... I am still engaged in the seemingly never ending saga of de-cluttering my house. I have reached the exquisitely detailed phase where the hard questions are being pondered. 'Have I used this in the last year?' 'Is this item still useful?' 'Do I know someone who could make better use of this?' 'Do I love this thing enough to keep dusting it?' I have ever been a low clutter person. But right now I am relishing the prospect of only having around me the things I love, and use on a regular basis, so as to make room in my psyche for more important things. (You must have a very delicate psyche to require all this 'room'.) Perhaps I do...perhaps I do.

It seems that Panda and Ellie have much in common, although I think he may have a better sense of what to chew up than Ellie. She un-stuffs all the toys, too. And she eats walnuts-- in my bed! I've gotten very good at collecting all the little bits of shell from the comforter, and I never, EVER, forget to make the bed anymore! The walnuts are dropped by the birds that nest in my big tree. I got so good at getting all the shells off my comforter that I've started buying Ellie and Jethro walnuts. I just barely crack them and let them at it. They aren't harmful to them, keep their intestines free of parasites (because of their very mild toxicity) and keep them occupied for a lot longer than a dog biscuit. Jethro only eats them because Ellie does, but he only eats a lot of things because Ellie seems to like it. Some of the things he doesn't actually eat, he just takes it and drops it on the floor, then looks at her like she's lost her little walnut-sized brain.

I'm only just starting to appreciate the joys of de-cluttering. There is something so freeing in the process. My current obsession is ridding my life of useless paper; 2 desks down, a filing left to go. Bring on the shredder! LOL
