Joy In Yellow AND Blue
Mon Jun 25 2012

I was commissioned to knit a little something for S. to give to her friend as a birthday gift. I will have to part with it this evening, so it can go to its recipient. Thing is, I have fallen in love with it. I'm keeping it close by so I can see it many times today…. Although, I am a fickle admirer. I have also been carrying this next one around with me, showing it to whomever I can buttonhole on the street... I may not be able to sell this one. (Here we go again. I can see the plastic buckets filling up. You need to work on your attachment issues. Otherwise we will be drowning in woolen objects once more.) Well, if this was by you, would you sell it?   I don't think so. (You can always make another one.) They never really turn out the same, even with the same pattern and yarn. There's this THING that happens in the felting. I think it's the chaos element. It's the magical part of the whole craft that keeps me going. I can't help myself. (Lucky for you there's a market coming up on Friday then. Put a price on it and shut up.) No. I'm keeping it. I don't have any proper sense of what to ask for it. I mean if I priced it right now, I'd want 395.00, or some other fantastical number. Clearly I do not have a balanced perspective on the subject. It's our own, our Precious. (Good lord. Where's Gandalf? Somebody needs to break the spell. Preferably using the gnarly end of his wizardly staff in a swift whap to the nether regions.) Lucky for me, Gandalf is a fictional character. (Blasphemy!) I think YOU need to work on YOUR attachment issues. In the meantime, step away from the blue bag. The blue bag is MINE.

So set it out with a $395 price tag on it. You either get rich beyond the dreams of avarice or you get to keep it and tell yourself that at least you tried to sell it.

I would want to keep it too. It is beautiful and love the color!
