When I got into the car to head to the farmer's market this week, the car thermometer read "96". I came [] this close to turning off the engine and retreating into the house to sit this one out. But I already had everything packed, so I sucked it up and drove down there.
Turns out it was a good choice. I bought myself a lemonade with lots of ice and set up in the shade of my neighbor's awning. We had live musicians there this week to help us keep our minds off the heat too. It helped a lot.
Several weeks ago a woman asked me to make her a cell phone pouch for a larger size phone. I've been holding it, wondering when she would come back. She was at the market this week. She didn't think her phone was going to fit, but when she put it in there, it was perfect. Then I sold a soft basket that I had knit on a whim to another knitter! She was visiting and a friend had brought her to the market. She admired the basket and asked me how I had made it, and we chatted about knitting in general. She walked away and then they left the market. About 20 minutes later, she came back and bought the basket. She said she wanted a sovenier from her trip to our valley and also wanted to try and make one herself from my design.
I LOVE it when knitters buy my work. It's so satisfying to be appreciated by people who understand what you do.
So I'm glad I went in the heat, but I am sure hoping that we won't see that kind of temperatures the rest of the season. I was wiped out when I got home.

This morning, after many, many days of sun, the sky is overcast.
I love it.
I got up early and fed the horses and let the chickens out. Then I set to on the weeds in the garden. It was nice to work out there in the cool of the morning without the sun in my eyes for once.
I peeled back the husks on a few ears of corn to see if they were ready to eat yet.
Not quite, but very close.
I noticed with dismay that the birds are decimating the blackberries right now. I did get my blackberry pie, and a blackberry upside down cake, plus a few baskets that I ate fresh. I was hoping to make a batch of jam this week, but it doesn't look like that is going to happen. There are more coming on, so I may have a second chance at that jam in a few weeks. I consoled myself by picking a bowl full of blueberries to snack on today.
I may have to resort to picking wild blackberries for my jam. It is a good year for them. The vines I see along the roads are loaded with green ones and a few are ripening now. But I will have to deal with the thorns. The ones in the garden are thornless.
My latest assignment from S. is to cut off the spent Shasta daisy flower heads in the front yard. Sounds like pretty 'Southern Belle' kind of occupation doesn't it? La-dee-da, and pass me my mint julep...
Only thing is, there are hundredes of them. I mean HUNDREDS. I'm whimpering a little bit just thinking about it.
But on the cheerful side of things, I have a knit list as long as my short stubby little arm, and there's fresh pea soup for lunch. I'll worry about the daisies later on this evening. I've decided that's going to be an 'after sundown' occupation.
Well, that's about it around here. I gotta go.
I have knitting to tend to.
It's good to see that you are keeping busy.
I like that in a human.
