Dog Days of Summer
Fri Aug 10 2012

I've been kinda…. umm, like, er…. busy. I've been trying to keep up with running the homestead on my own for several days now. The mistress of the farm has absconded to the frozen north for a much needed vacation and I have been here tending to … well, everything. Watering, weeding, picking green beans and squash and berries. Clipping those blasted daisy dead heads, feeding livestock and knitting myself right into a sore shoulder. I had to take the day off today and haven't knit a stitch. I sort of got into a frenzy of "finish it upitis" which culminated in me shipping off four packages at the post office today. I had three special orders, and a self imposed list of things I wanted to get done before the market tomorrow. As it turns out, it looks like the market is going to be cancelled because this weekend is the county fair and we are assuming everyone is going to be over the hill checking out the hog barn and home arts buildings instead of stopping by us. I coulda saved my poor shoulder. (I thought you knit with your hands, not your shoulder.) Well, they are connected don't you know. And it seems there's a certain micro movement going on up there from what I'm doing with my left hand that has inflamed something or another. Needless to say, I'm taking some aspirin, and gazing longingly at my stash. I saw a Liz Clairborn wrist purse in Penny's this week that I am just itching to try and duplicate in wool. (I'm sure it will be all the rage this fall….) Well, I don't really care if it is or not. I just want to see if I can do it. It's a matter of artistic challenge. (Lordy.) I decided to start making some hats to sell at the market. Though I may not trot them out until the weather cools down. The mere sight of them might make people faint. It's WAY too hot to look at winter hats right now. Though evidently not too hot to KNIT them...   And just for fun, here's a special order bag I mailed off today...   You should see Ben. He went to the groomers today. He looks maahvelous! I'll see if I can get a picture of him tomorrow. I'll bet they took a pound of hair off of him. AND they got the pitch off his side that he picked up in the wilderness. I couldn't get that stuff off. Those people are geniuses. What's on the agenda for tomorrow? Well, I can tell you that it will involve me being in close proximity to a certain Hub Man who is, as we speak, driving up here for a visit. Woo Hoo! A blackberry upside down cake is waiting for him on the kitchen counter. Maybe I can get HIM to trim dead daisy heads for a while tomorrow... (Fat chance, Cupcake.) Well, I can dream can't I? (Dream on. But still. Fat chance.) Pessimist.
