Today, among many other things…. I transplanted my tomatoes into the garden. They look incredibly vulnerable. They look like infants. I may not be able to sleep tonight for worrying about them in the big wide garden world. Tomato Day1   Tomato Day2 Some of those little green dots are basil seedlings. I am re-thinking my strategy for next year already. I think I am going to plant WAY fewer tomatoes, but put them in larger pots. And start them just a tad later in the spring. I think mine were stalling out and needed to be put in the real soil sooner. I think they will do fine, but it would be nice to have more robust plants to put out. We shall see how things go. I am growing varieties that are more compact and should not require a lot of support. Most of these are determinate tomatoes too, so I won't have tomatoes going on and on into the fall, but should have a lot at once so I'll be able to can some. That's the official story. We'll see how it plays out. I poked a few other plants here and there in the garden, not by this fencing and I STILL have these left over. Tomato Day3   Even after giving away a BUNCH of them to other people. I'm afraid I got carried away with the seeds this year. (Ya THINK?)

Better too many than not enough. I've decided today that the basil is going in the ground tomorrow. My tomatoes are doing great and they went in last Sunday, so your's should be fine. Remember the zen gardening rule, they grow or they don't. Still early enough to replant if we have to. :o)

You are way ahead of me. Heavy rains have delayed planting for more that a week. And my poor little starts are pathetic. I think I'm going to have to start over on everything except the broccoli. :(

You guys have cooler weather up there so don't fret re tomatoes-- but here in Sac ours are .... growing (aka ILOVEHEAT, say the tomatoes). We were just up in the mountains for a week though -- 45F average temps, heat on, electric blanket and ... very dry skin. Uggh on the dry skin. Mine is becoming super fragile, so I'm madly trying to find things that don't make me itch :)
