Yesterday I stacked some more wood down at the barn.
I'm in charge of stacking.
Mostly because I can't split wood worth beans.
Mr. P splits wood very well, and works on it for me when he takes a notion.
I'm very grateful.
Because yesterday I spied the splitting mall and a likely round of wood and decided to give it a whack or two and see if I could manage to split it at least in half.
...
...
8 whacks later…. I only managed to slice off a bit of kindling from one side… because I have a very bad aim.
The round is still there, sporting several dents in the top.
Sigh.
We all have our strengths and weaknesses.
I can bake a killer loaf of bread.
But I suck at splitting wood.
Anyway, here is a summer's worth of work, almost finished...
And here is Sunny, checking the remainder for squirrels.
Sunny hates squirrels.
I don't know why.
If Bruce could see what we have waiting for him… he might swoon. Or whatever wood stoves do when they get really excited about something.
Also on the homestead this morning I finally took some pictures of the garden from atop a tall stepladder. I can't get high enough to get the whole garden at once, but this gives you an idea...
This picture makes me very aware that I need to use my garden space better, as I have mentioned before. Though I'm mostly happy with how things are doing in my shake down cruise this year.
We have some very tiny beans…. finally...
I'm thinking I should have planted more of these. I'm making notes!
Live and learn.
Plant and grow.
Harvest and give thanks.
That's my plan.
