Since we have had a little rain and it was a calm day, Mr. P. decided it was a good time to set fire to some burn piles up in the woods.
I went up to help out.
When he cuts down a tree for firewood [usually a dead one or one that is infested with beetles], there are a lot of branches left over.
He makes piles and then burns them to keep the fire hazard down in the wood lot.
This was the most impressive one of three that he set fire to today.
Here's another view...
Once they burn down a bit, we added more dead wood from around the area to clean things up even more.
While I was gathering dead branches to add to one of the fires, I saw this stump:
I don't know if it will show up very well on your monitor, but this pitch was bright lavender!
I have seen a lot of tree stumps in my day, but never one with lavender pitch. I have no idea what that's all about!
Anyway, that's what's doin' in the woods around here today… pyromania in action. :-)
