I am feeling the crunch of not having my garden put in yet.
But we have had such a cold spring, that it seemed foolhardy to start too soon.
I made the mistake of checking this entry from last year just one day shy of today's date...

Look at those peas! Boo Hoo!
However, a few weeks after those pictures were taken, we had a bad cold spell and my potatoes got really frosted. It took them quite a while to recover. Though the peas and onions didn't care a bit.
This is what my garden looks like today, after I hoed weeds and raked up piles of rocks….
And this...
The only things growing are the berries, some sweet peas in pots, some transplanted volunteer sunflowers, and this marvel...
A Sweet William. It was just a little tyke last year, but braved that crazy cold winter and is starting to bloom...
Oh, how I love them!
Anyway, I just need to haul away those piles of rocks I raked up and till. Then I'll be ready to plant. However the tiller is out of commission right now. It's fate will be known in a few days I hope. If it is not available, I am thinking of taking the radical [for me] step of just preparing the rows myself with a shovel. I mean, I don't plant seeds ALL over the garden, just in certain spots. We shall see if I go all medieval or not. It will depend on my level of alarm at not having some seeds in the ground. It's getting pretty high right now…. !
Oh, yes. The first Iris is blooming just today.
Notice the spider perched on the very top of it!
