Greetings from the first circle of hell. (How many times must I tell you? Hyperbole is NOT a good literary strategy. I mean what are you going to say if you DO have to post an entry from the ACTUAL first circle of hell? You would be fresh out of unused descriptions. . .  Okay, start over.) Very well. Greetings from the focal point of the thermonuclear generator in the sky. (Sigh… is that the best you've got?) Hey, dude, it's hot. My brain is starting to bubble. Though I must be honest, the Sun is NOT a thermonuclear generator. It is ELECTRIC. (So, let me get this straight. You are going to jump from questionable literary technique, right into crackpot theory before you have even written 200 words?) It's not a crackpot theory. Here, watch this. Then we'll talk. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kin9zqPMPaI ANYWAY. It's hot. Ahem, ( ), here's where you are supposed to say…. "How hot is it?" (Oh God. It's going to be one of THOSE entries…. all right, I'll play along. But only because if I do, I THINK this will be over sooner.   How hot is it? ) Climbing toward 103 freaking degrees, and staying there most of the next 10 days!  THAT'S how hot. My poor hens are having a hard time doing their job under these conditions. Egg production is down. And I don't blame them. I'm trying to keep them cool by providing a mud puddle from a slowly running hose in the afternoon. They love it. But it's not enough to make up for the overall oppression of unrelenting hot air most of the day. I got up at 6 this morning to go for my walk. I decided to go up the road instead of the other way because there's more shade. I went all the way up above the creek spot where I usually hang out to see what's happening there, and lo and behold, someone had balanced some rocks!  They were only one rock balances, but there were about 5 of them. Maybe it's a collective consciousness thing! I didn't have my camera with me, sorry to say, so no pictures. My first picking of kale is soaking in salt water in the sink right now. Unfortunately, there are a few aphids. I'll take care of the little buggers. Thorough washing will commence shortly. I can't decide if I want kale chips or stir fried kale. One way or the other, that bowl will be empty by the end of the day. When I was out in the front yard this morning, I spotted something that was so tiny and cute, I had to try to get a photo of it. An immature acorn. acorn   I had the dickens of a time getting a shot of it. It's smaller than my thumbnail. My camera kept treating it like it wasn't there, and didn't want to focus on it. Off I go to figure out how to stay cool under these inhumane conditions. . . There's just something not right about temperatures over 95 degrees or so. Just ask the hens. They'll tell you. lime-wild

No hyperbole; 103 for one day borders on the outskirts of hell, 10 days qualifies as the first ring. If I were you I'd just find a shady spot on the creek and sit with a good book and my toes in the water until sundown.

So I guess that is where all our warm went as it is unusually cold here. But being as this is my first truly cold winter in the 5 years since I moved here and is still far more pleasant than where I used to live I shouldn't complain. Nice to know your rock balancing is catching on!
