Mr. P has concocted a plan for putting netting over most of the chicken run.
[Have I mentioned that I have the best landlord on the planet?]
While he waits for the netting to arrive, I have fenced the flock out of the open area. They are less than thrilled with the restricted space, but at the same time, they are still nervous from the hawk episode. There is a lot more loafing inside the coop than usual.
Because of the panel on the roof that lets light into the coop, at certain times of the day, it turns into a wonderful 'light box' for taking photos.
Miss Jane and Little Miss are the lookers right now. Va-va-voom!
The chicks are 37 days old.
How did that happen?
Yesterday, I let them out into the whole pen and sat out there with them and read my book for an hour. Everyone was delighted to get back to their regular scratching grounds...
They look like little birds now, instead of balls of fluff. They are VERY active. I'll have you know, I took 96 pictures to get these few selections where you could actually SEE them! Thank goodness for digital cameras. I used to resist the idea, thinking film was best. I'm a believer now. :-)
It's not all about chickens around here. The garden is winding down. I have a pot of soup on the stove right now with vegetables from my garden and my sister-in-law's roma tomatoes. I have plans to clean up a bit out there, but have decided that there will be no marathon chores. Only bits and bobs here and there. I think I will go out later and harvest the butternut squash before the promised rains come on Tuesday. They keep changing the percentages and it's driving me crazy. We would love to have an ABUNDANCE of rain… not 30% chances… you know what I mean???
Okay, off to the garden. Time's a wastin'.
