Even though it is painful, I wander each day into the garden, hoping to see some miraculous transformations among the ruins.
This morning I found a little cheer, though it was bittersweet cheer with a side of pity.
Even the stunted, beleaguered plants are trying heroically to complete their life's tasks.
This is a 'trailing nasturtium', which is supposed to grow 4 to 5 feet tall....
Poor thing....
And here is its neighbor:
Sir Valiant.
Nearby is a lone morning glory that came up as a volunteer from last year....
My little kale plants have been struggling. The spot that I have kept them was not getting enough sun and they were getting all leggy and wobbly. It didn't help one little bit that almost every evening we get some pretty strong winds for a few hours. For the last few days I had been putting them down low by the house with some wind breaks in front of them, but it wasn't really working.
Last night before going to bed, I checked on them and saw an alarming sight. I promptly brought them all in the house and sat at the kitchen table looking at their bedraggled state and just about lost it. They were flopping over in all directions and looked in imminent danger of snapping their stems.
Then I had an idea.
I got out some scotch tape and made scaffoldings for them.
This morning I put them in a sunnier spot, hoping for the best.
They look a little odd, but they also look perkier now.
Who ever thought that growing plants could be so difficult?
But I'm not giving up.
NOT.
GIVING.
UP.
