Great Expectations
Mon Aug 17 2015

A few days ago, the lumber yard truck pulled up to our place and delivered my new raised beds! They are made of awesome! DSCN7122 The original one I saw at the lumber yard that day was 3 by 8 feet. When they were ready to make up mine, they called to say that they could only get 10 foot lengths now and would I mind if they were 3 by 10 feet?  Are you kidding me? Of COURSE I would like more growing space! So here they are ready to put into the garden when fall comes: DSCN7123 We measured the garden carefully, and I made a little map so I could decide where to place the boxes. This is only one of MANY iterations so far... DSCN7118 That sort of square one is the one we will make from the old telephone pole. There is a search on for the best place to get topsoil and manure to put in the boxes. So far there are four possible sources! *** I went out this morning and started stacking some of the wood into the barn for the winter. There's a LOT of wood to stack now, as S. has given us some extra that we did not anticipate. It's a blessing with work attached to it! That barn is going to be chock full this year. I wonder what kind of winter we will get? Because we sure are prepared for a hard one.   lime-wild

Awesome...... but we all know I am a huge fan of raised beds! And I'm really glad to see they have wire mesh in the bottoms, an absolute necessity in my opinion. Our first few beds are missing that fine feature and the moles take full advantage every year. We contemplate the addition, but the task of digging them out is daunting to say the least.
