Garden of Delights
Fri Jun 10 2016

When I arrived home from my little trip, I hit the ground running and haven't stopped until right now. (What blatant hyperbole! I saw you lounging around in your jammies half the morning two days ago. Fess up.) Yeah, paying bills and making phone calls. And jammies? Since when are you using such low brow vocabulary? (Since slumming around with you, that's when.) The law of unintended consequences eh? The garden was on the top of my list when I got back, for there was still planting to do. The peas have been pulled up and replaced by tomatoes and basil: DSC01459 While I was gone the potatoes went through a major growth spurt: DSC01472 For the next few weeks, they are going to be magnificent. The ones in the raised bed are starting to put out their flower buds. When they have been blooming for a couple of weeks, I can start digging and eating potatoes. Then I'm going to put some other crop in there right away. That's my goal this year. To make my garden space count. The sweethearts of the entire homestead right now are these violas growing in a little pot... DSC01467 I don't think I have ever grown such a perfection of violas before. Every few days I pick off the spent flowers so they don't waste energy making seed pods. They look like yogurt with lemon curd to me. DSC01469 I have corn coming up, and butternut squash, and cucumber plants I grew from seed that I transplanted... but there are still a few things to put in the ground. By the end of next week, it will be weeding and watering and watching things grow. I'm very grateful that we don't seem to be having a repeat of last year's catastrophic conditions, and I have high hopes that I'll be able to preserve some food for winter this time. Winter. I can hardly remember it. (Don't worry. You will.) Sourpuss. (Realist.) Killjoy. (Mature sentient being.) Little Miss Sunshine1 Watch your language.   lime wild
