More Garden?
Sat Jun 18 2016

As we approach the summer solstice, it is only natural that everything revolve around the garden and the outdoors. I worked outside a good portion of the morning, and was loathe to come indoors at all. But I had to as it started raining. A nice dignified gentle, but steady rain. I have lots of seeds in the ground right now that haven't sprouted, and there's nothing like some consistent moisture to encourage them to emerge. DSC01498 I am so delighted with my carrot patch this year! DSC01508 Not a weed in sight and no thinning needed. What more could I ask for? DSC01510 These miniature cosmos are a continual source of eye catching color... DSC01509 But no one steals my heart like the sweet peas. DSC01504 That one above is a volunteer from last year. The expensive ones I bought from Floret Farms have yet to bloom. But they have finally started to really grow. DSC01501 The Sweet Williams are doing a grand job of brightening things up along the garden fence. DSC01519 And the sunflowers are budding.. DSC01526 Over by the chicken yard there are several clumps of this flower: DSC01532 Every year, I forget their name for some reason. DSC01533 There's no excuse for it either. They are such a beautiful color, you'd think I would put that in my brain somewhere and keep it safe. This year I bought a geranium on a whim. Of course it was blooming away in the pot at the nursery, but the transplant was a bit hard on it, and for quite a while I thought I was going to lose it. But it decided to live. And we are about to get another show... DSC01538 There are little geranium ponds in the leaves right now. And just to round out an almost perfect day on the homestead... Four of these are cooling on my kitchen table: DSC01540 I can hardly ask for more.   lime-wild

Rose Campion, which is as close to a common name as we'll find. Until today I only knew them as Lychnis Coronaria which I certainly couldn't remember. They grow near/amongst my Sweet William and pick up the dark pink in those blooms. They have reseeded as much as the Sweet William so I have lots and lots.

back to my last comment -- I remember when you were scratching out your first garden. Now I see you have things in raised beds -- this turned out to be easier/easier to water/easier for ?
