As we approach the summer solstice, it is only natural that everything revolve around the garden and the outdoors. I worked outside a good portion of the morning, and was loathe to come indoors at all.
But I had to as it started raining. A nice dignified gentle, but steady rain.
I have lots of seeds in the ground right now that haven't sprouted, and there's nothing like some consistent moisture to encourage them to emerge.
I am so delighted with my carrot patch this year!
Not a weed in sight and no thinning needed. What more could I ask for?
These miniature cosmos are a continual source of eye catching color...
But no one steals my heart like the sweet peas.
That one above is a volunteer from last year. The expensive ones I bought from Floret Farms have yet to bloom. But they have finally started to really grow.
The Sweet Williams are doing a grand job of brightening things up along the garden fence.
And the sunflowers are budding..
Over by the chicken yard there are several clumps of this flower:
Every year, I forget their name for some reason.
There's no excuse for it either. They are such a beautiful color, you'd think I would put that in my brain somewhere and keep it safe.
This year I bought a geranium on a whim. Of course it was blooming away in the pot at the nursery, but the transplant was a bit hard on it, and for quite a while I thought I was going to lose it. But it decided to live. And we are about to get another show...
There are little geranium ponds in the leaves right now.
And just to round out an almost perfect day on the homestead...
Four of these are cooling on my kitchen table:
I can hardly ask for more.
