Up Early
Thu Jun 30 2016

Somehow almost an entire week has slipped by since C. vacated the premises and what with one thing and another that required my attention, I haven't been out in the garden much, except to water. Unruly things happen in gardens when you aren't exercising your due diligence.... DSC01627 I don't know whether to mow or hoe. DSC01625 I was out there very early as you can see, to avoid the heat. All these weeds needed to be pulled by hand. There were too many to just chop them with a hoe, so it was hands and knees for me. But it payed off. My indian corn is now free to reach for the sky... DSC01635 That's more like it. DSC01637 My strategy for the weeds in the walkways is to borrow Mr. P's tiller and do the macho thing with it. That's what power tools are FOR. :-) It wasn't ALL discouraging out there this morning. I noticed a few wonderful things too. DSC01634 A tomato with freckles. And my prima donna sweet peas from Floret are finally starting to bloom.... DSC01632 I forgive all. The fuss was worth it. And just to wrap things up today... When I visited C. early this month, she put out my tea fixings for me on a little tray on her countertop so I could make it for myself when I got up. I was so enchanted by that idea, I bought myself a little wooden tray to use at home. We decided tea and coffee too, is as much about the ritual and ceremony of making it, as it is of drinking it. Therefore, I give you.... Morning tea at Heartwood Cottage: DSC01623 If you come by, I'll make you such a cup of My Chai, you will never recover from the magic of it!     lime-wild

:) I can certainly vouch for the magic of her special Chai! Your garden is so lovely! I should have helped you weed it instead of hiking to Taylor Lake, visiting Ashland, and learning to watercolor paint and balance rocks....NOT! haha

I love the "making" ritual as well. Somehow it is so comforting and to know it has been done for thousands of years blows the mind. You garden is looking very ship shape. Good job.

I've been off the internet for a while -- back issues! But C sent me a lovely photo of the two of you during this past week, so I'm thrilled to see how great you look AND am spurred to get back to your blog - so expect a few more comments! Hugs, Maryjo
