Corn For Fun and Profit
Tue Sep 20 2016

This year I planted an experimental corn patch in the garden. I planted an entire packet of seed that amounted to a whopping 1/2 ounce. A few days ago, I harvested my 'field'. I was amaized.  Get it? Amaized. (Oh my god. Please get me out of here.) Look at the return on my 3.65 investment... dsc02167 Have you EVER seen anything more beautiful? Now I understand why ancient peoples planted corn! Not one ear was like another. The colors include: red, gold, orange, purple, pink, lavender, blue, yellow, almost black, and rust. There are kernels that are mottled and ones that are striped. They are just stunning. dsc02166 dsc02163 And no, those kernels aren't wet. That is their normal shine. They absolutely glow! Their destiny is to be food for my chickens. I intend to run them through a mill and crack the corn so my chickens will have a nice treat in the winter. Corn is not highly nutritious and they need more than one grain to be healthy, but eating corn helps keep them warm in the cold weather, or so I have been told. It was a good day on the homestead. :-)   lime wild

The chickens will love them, although I doubt they will appreciate all the wonderful colors.
