Yesterday was a special day. I minced my way carefully down my icy, hazardous lane where my sister-in-law was waiting in her car and we made a hasty bolt, over the mountain, and into civilization. We not only had cabin fever, we had valley fever. I bought one of everything in the grocery stores, we had lunch, she got her hair cut, and when we couldn't think of anything else to do, we came home. It was most satisfying. I now feel prepared for anything mother nature decides to throw at me. There are chocolate chips in the house and plenty of butter. When you can bake cookies if you feel the need to, just how bad can life be? Mr. P kindly met us at the end of the lane where we transferred all my purchases into the back of his truck. He drove up the treacherous lane and I unloaded them into my wood cart. I parked it near the back porch to start bringing everything into the house. Remember our neighbor's chickens who come up here to forage? The ones I took pity on, giving them a few handfuls of chicken scratch? Well, the four who used to come, have turned into two. When they show up, I still toss some corn to them, because... well, it's cold, it's snowy, they are just trying to survive like the rest of us. Anyway, I brought my cart up to the porch and had brought the first bag inside. I stopped to put my purse and coat away, and when I turned around to get the next load, here's what I saw.... DSC02641 Cheeky! I stood in the doorway of the kitchen to see what would happen. I could not believe that they were so willing to waltz into the Room of Requirement like they owned the place! DSC02642 At this point I decided that was just about far enough and stepped into the room... they took the hint. DSC02645 I realized that the only way to get them out of my way was to feed them... DSC02648   so I tossed some corn out into the yard and they took care of it. I may have to re-think this whole relationship. *** Since S. had the day off today, she invited me to her house to do a little art. While she worked on a fabric project she has going, I painted a little robin. DSC02652 Maybe Spring will come now. (It's January. There is no Spring in January.) Sigh. Then it's high time for cookies I think. Yes. That's just what we need. Warm cookies and cold milk. Little Miss Sunshine1 Well, DUH!   lime-wild

Don't chickens look cute in the house? I always thought the chickens should live in the house with you for the winter. :-)
