Cube de Triomphe

I'm back in the hood. The hood is cloudy and cool. I am bemused by the weather. It's like a special gift. I have the Celtic blood. It suits me when it's a bit chilly out.

I had the most amazing trip north this time. SIL and my friend S. went to a quilt show and arts and crafts fair where I ended up seeing a plethora of friends and acquaintances. It was like old home week on steroids. High school chums, some contemporaries of the parental units and long time neighbors. I was gobsmacked. A few of these encounters were planned visits, but most were chance meetings. I started to expect astonishing things to happen around every corner!

At the quilt show I saw some truly great works of art.

This one below had 1000 triangles.... with NO duplicates. Every one was a different fabric. The mind boggles.

At the end, I made my two choices for favorites. I could not choose just one. Interesting that they were both wall hangings...

Quilters rock.

While we were in the quilt show, The Cube waited patiently.

On the way home, I was toodling down the highway and started to pass a semi truck I saw the driver glance at me in his rear view mirror and do a double take with a big grin on his face. I moseyed by him and when I had pulled in front and got back in the right lane I looked back and he was waving and smiling to beat the band. Suzie Cube I have decided, makes people happy. They can't help themselves.

I waved back for her since she doesn't have arms.

It was a great road trip. I could not have asked for more.

Were there cookies?

No.

But there was strawberry shortcake!

I wonder if that trucker owned one, too?

It was great seeing you. It never is long enough when those you love visit, but we sure had a great time drooling over quilts together! :o)

I have never been to a quilt show where I didn't see something fabulous. The 1000 triangle quilt is a nice example of what is called a Charm Quilt. At some point in history (I quite forget when) it was popular to collect (lots of trading here) bits of fabric to make quilts where every square (or shape of choice) was made from a different fabric. It could get quite competetive to see who could get the most fabrics without any repeats. Not all these quilts were pretty, but they did contain alot of variety! A few years ago Charm Quilts became popular again, but most come nowhere near the numbers of old.

The Cube has not yet caught on around here so imagine my reaction when I saw a blue one in town a few days after you bought yours. I did a double take thinking maybe you had made that road trip to the far north after all. I was terribly disappointed when I realized the blue coloring was all wrong. It still made me smile though. :)
