Wise Toads And Defenseless Cupcakes
Mon Jun 26 2017

I think I just took the olympic gold medal for most incongruous blog title. I'm just sayin'. *** It's all about the garden these days. It's growing at an astonishing pace. So are the weeds. :-). I went out there this morning to work on some of them. I gave myself strict orders to only work in a certain area and then stop. Turns out I didn't have to invoke my own rulebook on myself, because it got too hot pretty quickly and I finally retreated to the house in need of a shower. Good news is, the next section of weeds will be waiting right where I left them. Only bigger. But the thing about this round of work is that they won't be so troublesome from now on. As the weather heats up, fewer weeds sprout, and the larger plants shade them out. So this is the week of the big push for weeding. But by the end of it, I expect to sit in my little shelter and gaze upon a tidy, well kept garden as July comes in. Here are a few pictures... I will spare you the newest collection of Sweet Pea closeups. I'm a little obsessed. So here's one morning's picking... DSC03392 I know... :-) And guess who I found next to the waterbox? DSC03344 DSC03345 I do not know why I think toads are handsome, but I do. Perhaps it's the impression they give of knowing deep secrets about the universe or something. I can't figure it out. The fish are doing just fine... DSC03347 There's an onion leftover from last winter that grew into a tower and is getting ready to flower. What an amazing structure!!! DSC03372 It's a Copra onion. A friend found out I had this one, and asked me to save her the seeds because she couldn't find them in the stores this year. We will keep an eye on it and try to harvest them for her. Here's a little zinnia just opening... DSC03357 And in another part of the yard, I am waiting so impatiently for this Hollyhock to bloom I want to know what color it is! DSC03389 Ever notice that so many plants have hair? DSC03396 (You SAID you weren't going to do that.....) I couldn't help myself. (You have a pitiful lack of self control. It's degrading.) I'm helpless. I have no defenses to Sweet Peas. They have their way with me. (This conversation is degenerating into areas that I don't care to discuss.) Coward. (No. I have punctuational dignity.) Very well.  But it could have been a frilly, fun, and fragrant conversation.   lime-wild
