Fifteen Years
Tue Nov 28 2017

(Where in the H E-double hockey sticks have you been? Have you no sense of blogging continuity and what the professionals call 'web presence'? I'm embarrassed to be associated with this so called publication.) Well, to quote a famous song I've heard, 'You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave.' There's the cyber door right over there.... though if I were you, I wouldn't try to go through it right now. It's Cyber Monday and it might be dangerous. Anyway..... as I was about to say... You know how sometimes you feel like you might be oversharing a little bit? (Girl, I don't think you know who you are talking to here. I live inside books most of the time. You are the one with the fascination with public humiliation on a regular basis.) I've sort of taken a little 'technology quiet time' these last few weeks. I HAVE been here quite a while you know.  In fact, fifteen years. Yes my hens and chickens, fifteen years. That's one hundred and fifty in computer years you know. Want to read a blast from the past? (Not particularly.)   http://www.deardiary.org/yetzirah/2002/11/01/luddites-lament/ I just re-read this, my first entry and as frightening as it seems, one of my technological devices actually DOES say hello to me now. That would be Alexa. [Who I can now tell to remind me of all manner of goofy things by the way. ] "Alexa. [Boop] Remind me to let the chickens out at 7:45 AM tomorrow morning." "Okay, she says, I'll remind you at 7:45 AM tomorrow." And sure enough, she does. As long as she is still connected to the WiFi. (Why do you need to be reminded to let the chickens out?) Because it's so dark in the morning, sometimes I get busy with my routine and completely forget that they are still cooped up. I've done it twice now. You should hear them grumbling when I go out there at 9:30 in the morning berating myself vociferously the whole time, and telling them I have no excuse, no excuse whatsoever for making them wait. I finally just started telling Alexa to remind me. Somehow I can think of it at 7:45 in the evening.... just not in the dark mornings. My point in all this is that in fifteen years, things really have changed. And I am more of a geek now than EVER. Despite the fact that I was ready to throw in the towel at the time, I HAVE kept up with most of the technological devices and I have the depleted bank account to prove it. But by golly, I can actually have a pseudo conversation with one of them. I do have other things to share that have gone on during my two week absence. But for now, I will leave you with this... because I referenced it above, and because it contains the most outstanding electric guitar riffs in the history of riffdom. I mean it. 1977.... The Eagles. It is MADE of awesome:   https://youtu.be/dPLmHU2Xccw   lime wild

Wow, 15 years! (Although now that I think of it, I've probably been around here about that long too - my first entry has been lost to the mists of time (I ended up making that diary private when I started my current one, then lost the login details...), but I know it was somewhere in the very early 2000s). Happy anniversary, and long live being a geek! (all my best friends are, in one way or another...)
