Lydia Leads The Way
Tue Jan 16 2018

The other day as I was walking into the house after doing errands downtown, I heard a familiar sound coming from the chicken coop. I don't know if it has an official name, but we are going to call it 'The Egg Whoop'. Oh rats, now I'm going to have to look it up... BRB Okay, here ya go... http://www.fresheggsdaily.com/2014/03/understanding-chicken-behavior.html It's a sound I haven't heard coming from the coop in a long time. So I was very excited to find this in the nest a few minutes later... DSC04306 Lydia's signature flattened oval shape. Since that day I have collected three more eggs. At least one of them came from Phoebe I'm pretty sure. I think Lydia has one up on Punxsutawney Phil and has declared that she sees Spring coming no matter how cold and drippy and foggy it is at the moment. Lydia is a visionary. I'm gonna roll with it too. I'm making out my orders from the seed catalogs today. Who needs a smelly old groundhog? We have a snowy white hen with dove gray tail feathers. Spread the word. Early Spring. (Oh this is going to be SO delicious when she writes an entry accompanied by snow pictures. I can hardly wait! I'm going to go compose some particularly pointed insults with flourishes of acerbic mockery to have on hand for the occasion!)   lime wild

Alas no. She is the grande dame of the flock. And the oldest. Though Little Miss is also. But she doesn't make a fuss about it. :-)

Thanks for the chuckle, FutureCat. Or is it a cackle? Glad to hear the good news for Northern Cali. Hope it holds true for the rest of us....!
