I have returned from my week away from the homestead. Spent a most enjoyable time with C. doing out of the ordinary things and having semi-metropolitan adventures.
I have a couple of amazing things to share.
This is the first one:
A few weeks ago, C. sent me an article about a hand forged object that she found intriguing. I found it intriguing too since it involved eggs.

Now that you have picked yourself up off the floor, the amazing part of the story begins.
When you go to visit C. , you are sure to be taken to some interesting places. She's always on the lookout. Anyway, she found out about a second hand store that we needed to visit. So off we went.

I got lost in the outdoor section of the store for a while looking at possible garden shelves and picket fencing boards, while she went inside. When I finally joined her I was amazed at the collection of stuff in there. The two women who ran it had VERY good taste in my humble opinion. All sorts of delightful objects needed my immediate attention. It was hard to focus on any one thing, as EVERYTHING looked desirable!
C. snapped me out of my state of awe by handing me something that was so amazing I could hardly believe my eyes....
Here it is ....
Yep. A hand forged ladle. Which of course knows nothing about the article in Vogue magazine. And was probably used in some mining camp to dip up beef stew from a cauldron over an open fire.
She sadly confessed that she could not use this ladle as an egg spoon in her kitchen because she has a glass top stove, and did I want it?
I could NOT believe the synchronicity of what was happening. I was stunned and amazed.
And here's the delicious [pun intended] part....
FOUR dollars!
We were laughing about it for the rest of the day... :-)
She gave me a steel wool pad to take home and last night I scrubbed it to within an inch of its astonishing existence.
But to be sure, will always be a rustic item. It is actually a nicer shape than its pricey city cousin, and it is made of one piece of metal, so the handle is very sturdy.
This morning, I decided to try it out, and using olive oil as the woman in the article suggested, I cracked one of ... I'm pretty sure was Little Miss's eggs into it.
[MY egg spoon only cooks eggs from chickens I know PERSONALLY don't you know.....]
The thing is perfect for the task.
I was a little nervous about it burning.... or sticking....I had no idea how this was going to go... but after a bit, I took a knife and pushed the egg around a little and found that I could quite easily flip it over, given the steep sides of the ladle. I don't know if the woman in the article flipped hers....but I flipped mine. 
I was so happy with the shape of it, as the whites don't have any place to spread all out and cook quicker than the yolk. It's actually a genius idea. But according to the article, the geniuses lived back in the day when they were cooking over an open fire.
Here's the egg from Little Miss, ready to eat...
It was perfection.
With a side of Serendipitous Synchronicity. And a splash of Angelic humor. Because I'm pretty sure, some angel is STILL telling the egg spoon story to his friends. I can hear them laughing now... :-)

And oh, K. .... the handle doesn't get too hot to hold. I think because it is hollow. Thought you would like to know since you were concerned about it. :-)
