After many weeks of sunshine, clear skies and very cold temperatures, there is a storm coming in tonight.
This put me under some pressure to finish up my leaf raking project. I looked back on it and realized it has been spread out over seven days. I hauled 16 tarp loads of leaves, sticks and acorns down to a low spot away from the lawn. They were way too wet to burn, so the turkeys will dig through them looking for whatever turkeys look for in leaf piles.
I guess you might be wondering why I'm making such a fuss about these goofy leaves.
Well, I think the main thing is that I have just turned 74 years old. And I'm actually very thankful that I still have the energy to do this kind of work. Even though it DOES take me a long time to do it, and I have to divide it up into smaller portions. And I want to make note of the fact that in years past, I was not in the best emotional state to face this job alone and I hired someone to come and help me a few times. The task was too daunting. I couldn't muster up the psychic capital to do the job.
But this year, I managed to do it. And I'm taking it as a sign that I'm in a better place physically and emotionally. So it's not just raking leaves. It's a confirmation that things are going well inside my noggin.
(That's a pretty low bar you have set there Cupcake.)
Perhaps. But I don't see YOU helping out one bit.
(Raking gives me blisters.)
That's why God made gloves.
Anyway, here's the last of the job finished:
And oh! I caught something very unusual on the trail cam!
I don't know what species this is.
But it has a rake.
I might have to see if I can convince it to help next year with the leaves.
Unless it's too wild.
You never know.
I might be able to catch it.
We'll see.
