So winter is upon us in earnest.
A few days ago, it started raining. We ended up with 6 inches of rain in about three days! Then it started to snow. Not a lot, but enough to make me head down to the grocery store to pick up a few essentials. You know... the primal survival gene kicked in.
Alexa keeps popping up with weather alerts like we are having some kind of blizzard. No such thing is happening. Evidently the weather people are easily alarmed.
Here's the ice pond covered in snow slush at the moment...
Hen's Rest looks picturesque
Lucky for me, while all this is going outdoors, I had a package arrive that gave me something fun to work on. I ordered 11 ink samples. I wanted to try them out before I ordered larger bottles. I'm so glad I did. Only about four of these will make it into my collection.
My paper towel has become a work of art in itself!
I have ink all over my fingers right now. But they don't look like a work of art I can tell you that.
So, there's more snow coming Alexa says, but I doubt it's going to be as apocalyptic as she is making out.
However, I'm grateful for a full tank of heating fuel, recently delivered, and of course our Bruce. Though I have to tell the truth, my wood supply is dwindling. I bought one cord less than usual. Eva is going to have to take up the slack, bless her elegant kerosene heart.
Oh! One more thing....
Yesterday as I was looking out the window, I saw a gray squirrel dash across the yard with something in its mouth. Whatever it was, it was sort of flopping... and .... it had a tail.
(What?)
Yep. That gray squirrel was hauling a dead mouse around. He ran up the big oak tree with it and disappeared from view. I couldn't believe it. I have never seen such a thing.
So, I looked it up. And by golly, squirrels eat mice. Especially in the winter. This was quite disturbing to me I have to say. It didn't seem right. But I saw it with my own eyes. Well, not the eating, but the hauling.
You learn something new every day. Though I wouldn't mind something less gruesome. Like, oh, Racoons enjoy listening to jazz or something. But no.... I have to learn that the gray squirrels aren't just acorntarians. They're carnivores too.
Weird.
Anyhoo, I'll let you know if the snowpocalypse arrives. I'm not holding my breath.
But Alexa sure is. 🙄
