Ice Pond Embraces Its Name in Full
Fri Feb 07 2025

If they were in danger of losing their jobs, I'd have to refrain from firing them.

The snow that the weather people predicted actually arrived.

With a wintery resolve, I might add.

The ice pond has now taken its name seriously and frozen over. Except where the water runs into it from the runoff creeks.

I saw the flock of turkeys gathered at the edge of it this morning. They decided they preferred not to walk on thin ice and flew to the other side. It takes quite a bit of agitation for a turkey to take flight in case you didn't know. I don't understand it. They have huge wings and can fly quite well. They just don't like to do it. If you look closely, you can see some of them over there in the trees.

There is no easy way to get down to the edge. The sides are so steep. I have a powerful desire to go down there and see how frozen it really is. But I also have a powerful desire not to fall into it. So, for now it will remain a mystery.

(I myself wouldn't mind watching you fall into the ice pond. It might be quite entertaining.)

Get used to disappointment. I'm not doing that.

(Pity.)

Anyway, here's the long view from under the maple tree....

While this snow is picturesque and mildly inconvenient, what's happening up in the mountains is a precious gift. I don't have any idea what kind of snowfall happened up there, but whatever has fallen is about to go into deep freeze because here it is supposed to get into the low teens for the next few days. And at the higher elevations, that may dip into below zero. A good freeze like that will help prevent the snow from melting quickly in the Spring. At least that's what we always hope for.

It's interesting to live in a place where you can SEE the state of your water supply by looking at the tops of the mountains.

I won't be going anywhere today, that's for sure.

If you need me, I'll be throwing wood into our Bruce. 😋🔥

Although winter brings on colder temperatures and dangerous icy roads, the snow covered ground of the country can be very beautiful and dangerous. Such a lovely set of pictures and memories you have in your diary for this winter. Thanks for sharing
