Women's Choices
Wed Feb 02 2005

Q: How many monkeys does it take to screw in a light bulb?
A: Only one, but it sure takes a lot of light bulbs!

Well…we’ve been discussing with the colleagues how men and women make their choice. In anything in general. And in particular – in …curtains…yep. That’s right. I did bought a curtains last weekend. And yes, I did change my mind now. And yes – I don’t have a replacement. [~You may start laughing now]

The consequences of that will be so that on Sunday I will drive so many miles to the shop to return them, curtains, and after that…well...[~sigh] the hunt will start again…

And so since my painful redecoration affair has become almost a legend of all times in my office …certainly a saga…my colleagues have a chance to discuss the phenomena of how women make their choice and how men do same. (notice, that all my colleagues are men themselves)

From male point of view men can only differentiate between 16-bit colour panel, therefore such colours as “ocean blue”, “deep mauve” or “mink” tells nothing to them…

From male point of view curtains should:
a. be reasonable acceptable colour scheme
b. protect from the light
c. easy washable

So if male to buy curtains, they would likely to go for “thatwilldo” option in the first shop if the price is reasonable enough.

Females certainly can’t do it this way! The curtains should:
a. match the furniture in the room, the carpet, the walls and preferably the eyes of an owner.
b. Look like expensive fabric or at least from designer’s shop
c. Express the character of an owner.

Surely female’s requirements more hard to satisfy. [~in fact is there such thing as female satisfaction?!] …I was trying to explain to my colleagues why we do things the way we do them, but of course they were in majority, which gave them all the chances to win over…well, perhaps women’s ability to explain things has helped that too…

I’m sure most of the ladies out there will perfectly understand me when I’d say that “natural” colour could be “too yellowish” and that linen could be “too heavy looking”…Honestly, I feel sorry for poor men, who unable to grasp such simple things!
