Obligatory Christmas Rant.
Mon Dec 21 2009

Last few days before we “break for Christmas”…Monday’s coming to work has been interesting. The water pumps have failed and there was no water in the building. The temperature in the office was 13 C when we arrived this morning. How nice. And when we tried to call various dependant offices where we supposed to do some work, there is no answer. Feels like an Ice Age – everything’s subjugated by permafrost. The funny side of this - it is not even below zero outdoors! And apart from some icy patterns on the road, there is no actual snow. Gee, this country truly doesn’t “do” seasons very well. No matter how often the “winter” comes to England, we are never ready for it, even if it is a pathetic winter’s parody. It never seizes to amaze me. I’ve just survived a chain of Christmas parties. It was challenging in some ways – two of them were pure dancing for 3-4 hours, so my feet feel a bit party-sore. And the rest of me felt poor last Thursday, after the first party in a row. Boo hoo. Turned out my body has secretly changed his limits of alcohol consumption without letting me know. I’m surprised there weren’t any news headlines next morning about drunken foreigners wandering the railway stations at midnight…although I did managed to make it home that day. So the beginning of party-chain was bad, but then it got better and better, so I guess, I can say I had a fabulous time. And it’s not all over still – one more dancing to go tomorrow and then, I think (I hope) I’ll be pretty much “done” for this year. Pheeewww, quiet start, but wild ending of The-Year-I-Didn’t-Like-That-Much. Since this is a Rant, I am picking mostly on the stuff to rant about. I also surprisingly can’t think of any non-seasonal stuff to file a complaint about this year. Although 2009 didn’t really leave an impression of a fantastic year in my life, I still had few good things happened in it and most importantly, I’ve learned so much in this year, I can never understate the importance of the time spent in re-discovering myself. It just was a year with less wonderful happenings then usual. Although, to be fair, with more then the previous one indeed. Out of interest I’ve checked out mylast year’s verdict and it made me pleased with the current even more. I’m stealing an expression from someone and declare my 2009 to be a Subdued Year. Which, perhaps, is the best way to have it, really, all to match my needs at this particular point of this Life Of Mine.
