Queen of Perfect Dethroned !
Sat Feb 01 2003

Stand back !

She’s in the kitchen stirring up batters with yeast in them !

I’m on a “roll” today. I made challah dough and made four small challot and used half the dough to make cinnamon rolls. So there I was with a bread dough bowl already gummed up, so I looked over and there was a half a container of flour that I ground for the last batch of whole wheat bread that I made. So I started another batch of bread using that flour and some oats and whatever I had on hand to make 4 loaves of regular bread.

The cinnamon rolls are in the oven now, the whole wheat loaves are rising on top of the stove waiting their turn. I will be “bread rich” very soon.
The week is covered, the staff of life has been provided. All is well in my part of the universe.

Besides this wonderfulness, I have figured out that I, ( contrary to my INTJ personality leanings) am NOT the center of the universe. Nor am I in possession of ALL the answers to all questions of ethics and morality in my immediate vicinity. I have dethroned the queen of perfectness and plopped her in the corner with the job of churning butter for a while just to give her a new perspective on life. I am sure she will survive the fall from Perfectville to “the real world”. I am also giving notice that I am no longer going to be the one on sentry. There will be a changing of the guard. I don’t know WHO is relieving me, but I know that I won’t be on duty. I quit. Somebody else can make sure that the world keeps turning and the garbage gets put out and the bills get paid on time and the weeds are pulled. I MIGHT do these things, but I might not. I need a vacation from the grim grindstone.

I’m outta here.
Shabbat is coming and I will sit and survey the world from the comfort of the knowledge that God is in charge, and He’s doing a darn good job of it too. Everything that is goofed up in the world can be laid at the feet of human beings. But the good news is, that means we can straighten it out.
But not today, not on Shabbat. Eighteen minutes before the sun goes down we can rest and call the thing done, perfect, finished. And Amen.
