The birds are extra vocal right now as they are raising families. Under the corner roof tiles on the tall houses, there are sparrows and in the front yard this morning, there was some sort of territorial dispute going on.
I hear babies hollering for food from the nest in the house behind us. Our house is only one story and the birds don’t think us a suitable place for child rearing. So we watch and listen from a distance.
The tomatoes survived the night, although a tentative hole was dug near one edge of the bed. I’ve added a rolled up piece of green plastic fencing to that spot hoping the cats will take the hint. That whole planter now looks….well, ridiculous. But soon the tomatoes will be huge and form an impenetrable jungle, it’s their nature. Then they will have no fear of potty stalking cats.
Yoga class starts in a little while. I’ll have to be out the door soon, into the car. Sigh. It’s only 6 miles away, but it gets tedious to have to drive the car all the time. It’s a daydream I have to someday live in a place where you can walk to all your everyday activities. I lived that way for many years and I miss it. There is something calming about knowing you can pretty much be almost anywhere in town in a 15 minute walk. The grocery, the bank, the doctor and drug store, the dentist, the fabric store, the post office and hardware store. The coffee shop and library were all available within a few blocks. I do miss that. It’s too bad one cannot get the best things of city and small town in one place. Somebody needs to work on that one. Any volunteers?
