Hi Ho...it's off to work I go!
Fri May 09 2003

Well chickens, guess what? I have a job! I am going to hand out name badges at a technology conference downtown. The conference only lasts for a week and I work 4 days. I like the idea of it having an end. In case it is really weird or something. But the scary thing is I have to ride the train downtown. I have never been on the thing. I went over to the station after my interview today and bent the ear of the nice man who works there. He answered all my questions and I got out and learned how to use the ticket machine and found out as much as I could. Now I am going to see if I can get my hubby to ride with me down there and back as a trial run before next week. I don’t want to be working bugs out of my commute at 6:00 in the morning on my first day of work, okay?

Anyway, I am not TOO freaked out and they said the job pays 9.50 an hour. Not an insulting wage at all for a newbie. It’s more than I am making right now!
Which is absolutely nothing... :-)

My mothering instincts kicked in and I was mulling over what I should pack myself for lunch, how warm a coat to wear in the chilly morning, making sure I have train fair quarters at hand. I almost feel like I am launching someone else into a new venture. But it’s ME! I wonder what the psychological name is for this mild disconnect?

So now, I am off to go for a walk and work off what little “wiredness” I have after all this new input into my rather cloistered existence….

Today the technology convention, tomorrow.... well, let's just see when we get there.

Well done! Now remember play nice with the other kids, do you have your lunch money? Seriously though great news on getting work you'll do fine, boy are you in for a treat if your subway is anything like ours- my advice is to not make eye contact witht hte scary looking people and you'll do great.

    Hugs
    Rachel

Mazel Tov!! You'll be riding the rails like a pro after the first day. You *will* let us know about the job.

Congratulations! Straight shot on the rail I should imagine. Can't wait to hear all about your day and ride on the rail! :-)
