With the help of my dad's leaf blower, I made several piles of leaves yesterday. They will need to be moved onto a compost pile Mr. P. wants to make. He is sort of a compost wizard around these parts. He seems to have the magic touch. I'm grateful, because I get to have some of that wonderful stuff for my garden. I do my part by adding kitchen scraps and weeds that I pull all summer. But he's the one that adds horse manure and sees that they get watered once in a while.
My arms and hands are sore today from running the leaf blower and hauling wood to the wood shed. I added to my calluses this morning by shoveling gravel into the wheelbarrow and spreading it around the stepping stones alongside the wood shed. Those will be very welcome this winter. Last year it was a muddy, puddly mess in that area.
There's a lot of work to get the gardens and yard and wood situations prepared for winter. Though it's kinda hard to really feel any urgency about it, since we are having such glorious weather! I look at the calendar though and realize that November will be here shortly, when anything can happen weatherwise. So we plug along and do our fall chores even though it's warm enough to sun bathe.
I gathered all the ingredients the other day to make this soup...
