Pass Me A Hankie, I'm So Happy?
Sat Aug 09 2003

I don’t know whether to throw a small party or have a good cry.

The head of the department was the bearer of the news today that some of the summer hires have been kept on for another 7 weeks. I was one of the “lucky” ones. That means I am working full time until the end of September.

It’s good and it’s daunting at the same time. I feel like a horse, who thought that it had finished plowing the field, only to be led into the next one. One has to sort of lean a sweaty tired shoulder into a chafing harness again, just when you were getting ready for your evening oats.

Ooofff. Keep going Betsy, just another 40 acres to go!

I have fluctuated from happy to mildly depressed 3 or 4 times since the news this afternoon. Now that I am home, I am glad it’s a Friday and I can contemplate the new scenario slowly over the next two days.

I have made up my mind that a picture is getting taped on the wall by my cramped computer desk to inspire me on the days when I want to throw down the pile of papers and go home and bake bread…..

I am not sure THIS is the one, but SOME kind of new couch will be what I am working for these next many weeks.

What do you think?

the carrot on the stick

Hope I did that right and you can see it. I have already printed out a picture of it to take with me on Monday.

In the meantime however, Shabbat, the day of rest is upon us. The sun is headed down and challah is thawing out on the counter….. (see how things have changed!) I bought it last week and put it in the freezer. Homemade will have to wait a while I guess. Cold salmon and fresh tomato soup will make our dinner tonight.

Chin up, and all that stuff you say…

Okay, I will try to keep my lower lip from quivering. But the thing is September 30 WILL finally arrive, and I WILL come home to the place that I belong . . .eventually.

And my husband and I can rest on our new couch. That will be a nice image to keep in mind too….

I saw the sofa. Looks very nice. Do the pillows come with? The color is called ocean, but the picture looks gray, with maybe a tinge of blue. The color of my sofa is called ocean. So what are we looking at?

Are you going to order the sofa ahead of time or wait until you have cash in hand?

    Shabbat shalom.

Love the couch! Seven weeks is not too much for such a couch? *smile* Hang in there. Isn't it nice to be appreciated? Not really?

It's a very nice couch, think of it this way as well you've obviously done a really good job for them to want you to stay on for the extra time- wouldn't you have been disappointed if they hadn't kept you on just a little bit even? SOrry I couldn't help laughing out loud at the Betsy image it'll be over before you know it.

Congratulations??????? I will have to continue missing you being home on the block another 7 weeks. Sheesh! Don't those people at the hospital know we need you too?! *smiling* The couch is beautiful and it will look perfect in your living room. I love the color! I can't wait to rest upon it with you and talk and talk and talk. It has been way too long!(It does not surprise me that they want you to stay either!)
