The head of the department was the bearer of the news today that some of the summer hires have been kept on for another 7 weeks. I was one of the “lucky” ones. That means I am working full time until the end of September.
It’s good and it’s daunting at the same time. I feel like a horse, who thought that it had finished plowing the field, only to be led into the next one. One has to sort of lean a sweaty tired shoulder into a chafing harness again, just when you were getting ready for your evening oats.
Ooofff. Keep going Betsy, just another 40 acres to go!
I have fluctuated from happy to mildly depressed 3 or 4 times since the news this afternoon. Now that I am home, I am glad it’s a Friday and I can contemplate the new scenario slowly over the next two days.
I have made up my mind that a picture is getting taped on the wall by my cramped computer desk to inspire me on the days when I want to throw down the pile of papers and go home and bake bread…..
I am not sure THIS is the one, but SOME kind of new couch will be what I am working for these next many weeks.
What do you think?
Hope I did that right and you can see it. I have already printed out a picture of it to take with me on Monday.
In the meantime however, Shabbat, the day of rest is upon us. The sun is headed down and challah is thawing out on the counter….. (see how things have changed!) I bought it last week and put it in the freezer. Homemade will have to wait a while I guess. Cold salmon and fresh tomato soup will make our dinner tonight.
Chin up, and all that stuff you say…
Okay, I will try to keep my lower lip from quivering. But the thing is September 30 WILL finally arrive, and I WILL come home to the place that I belong . . .eventually.
And my husband and I can rest on our new couch. That will be a nice image to keep in mind too….
