Hamlet On Alert
Fri Dec 30 2005

Oy Gevault, I'm tired of these fonts.

I would so love to spice up these words with some quirky little fontlet....

Sigh.

Hamlet is having a bad day. In fact, it's his 3rd bad day in a row.

He is in a state of hyper vigilance and no matter how many times Sunny strolls by in complete non-aggression, (in fact totally ignoring him most of the time) Hamlet just don't get it.

He's stuck on stupid.

Though I would say he has ratcheted down the panic a notch, he still has a long way to go. Just because today he doesn't act like he's going to up chuck at any moment, hardly seems worth celebrating about.

Sunny has been taking all this about as well as any dog could be expected to.

We almost had rabbit for breakfast too. When we were walking down by the creek this morning, we scared a cottontail rabbit, who ran RIGHT in front of us. Sunny would have had that little fur ball if she hadn't been on leash at the time. Whoah! (Of course, I cannot eat rabbit, it's not kosher....)

We also saw one of the horned owls up in the tree again today. He seemed less alarmed at me with a dog in tow. Maybe lots of people walk their dogs down there, and a lone person is the suspicious thing. Who knows?

I am baking cookies today.

Did I tell you about my project?

I don't think so.

If I did, ignore the following paragraph.

I have this really great cookie cookbook from Pillsbury. I have drooled over its beautiful illustrations for years. I decided to try EVERY recipe in that book. I have been trying one a week in order of their appearance. At this rate, it will take me three and a half years to finish the book. As we go along, we rate the cookies on a scale of 1 to 10, and I write down the date I baked them. Today I'm making Cherry Poppyseed Twinks. I just tried one a minute ago. I found them... ordinary..... but edible. I don't think I would make them again to tell you the truth. But Hub Man hasn't had his try at them yet. He may think otherwise. We HAVE varied widely in our assessments. I think this is the 6th recipe in the book.

I always trot a dozen down to my neighbors so we don't have to dispose of ALL of them ourselves.

Sunny will help me walk off the leftovers I'm sure. ;-)

Poor Hamlet. He's been an only child long enough now to have a proprietary interest in his domain, and you bring in that...what? "Doesn't smell like a cat, doesn't meow, etc..... And it's so BIG!"

    Oy Gevault!

Oh well. Yetz has a walking companion now and a helper in the delivery of cookies. Can that be all bad?

Poor Hamlet...perhaps subliminal messages would help....soft purring over messages such as "Dogs and cats CAN be friends, Sunny is a nice doggy, Sunny is your friend, Hamlet likes Sunny."

Don't laugh; it could work. LOL

So what other cookies have you made so far, and which is the best to date?

Hopefully Hamlet will get a clue soon. I would imagine after a couple weeks, Sunny will become something he isn't threatened by and he will calm down. Too bad you don't have a kitty tranquilizer until that time!

I haven't tried the angel food/pineapple recipe but have heard tell of it. I also want to try the cake mix/diet soda thing for cake but haven't gotten around to that either. One of these days. Happily I don't drink diet soda so I would have to remember to buy some just for that, seems kind of hard to do somehow.

I would be happy trying just about any of these desserts: http://halfmysize.com/desserts.htm

Plus I got the new WW magazine today, haven't looked through it yet but the cover claims new dessert recipes. Okey dokey!! :o)

Awwweeeeeeee, Checked back a few days and discovered that Sunny is a beauty! Gorgeous big brown eyes and happy smile....

I came home the other day to discover my daugher in the kitchen with my Campbell's Soup cookbook out and at least 50 pages tabbed. She declared that we should try using more of those recipes. Looks like you and I will be doing a lot of cooking/baking this upcoming year!

    Happy New Year!
