Sand E. Coyote
Sun Sep 09 2007

Say howdy do to Sandy.
Our latest foster Sheltie.
We think she looks like a coyote.

She is one year old. And a puppy still. She has a fondness for kitchen countertops and will put her paws up there to have a look see what's on the menu. She is an explorer and paces around the house looking for things to get into. She had a pile started this morning consisting of my knitting, a sock and a Birkenstock. But so far hasn't damaged anything. But hey, the day is young....

She can run like the wind as you might imagine. And wore Sunny to a frazzle on their first outing together. But this morning Sunny had it figured out and began using better logistics. 'Cut her off at the pass' was the tactic. And it worked.

This dog is SO not like our last foster dog. You almost couldn't concoct a different personality than Jo Jo if you tried. I figure there are two possible outcomes from doing this fostering thing. Either we will all develop PhD's in dog psychology, or all three of us will require mental health services.

Time will tell.

I never saw a coyote with such a lush coat.

So, Sunny got her number. That's a Good Thing.

I've heard that PhD's are a little off their rocker, so you get the best(?) of both?

    Bless

P.S. No, it's psychiatrists--Gotta be a little crazy yourself to go into that field.

    What a cutie!

I'll be interested to hear the tactics you use to break Sandy of counter surfing. We've tried everything with Stormy (short of Air Soft Guns that Hubby keeps mumbling about under his breath), and are looking for new ideas!

LOL - Sounds like Sandy is related to our new kitty friend. I can't believe how many times I had to say NO tonight while keeping him off the coffee table. He'll learn, they both will. :o)

    WOW! She is beautiful.
    Very "collie" looking.
    Ya gotta love puppies, eh?
    Run, run, run...

Coyote? Maybe in her coloring just a bit, but hers is prettier. She's a bit more golden than any coyotes I've seen around here.

I wish you well in the next round of training. I don't envy you in that department. Puppy power is a force to be reckoned with.

One thing we tried with the counter surfing that had limited success was mouse traps. Stormy has learned that if there are mouse traps on the counter to stay off. The problem is, as soon as the mouse traps are moved, she is back up counter surfing again. Maybe Sandy is young enough to be able to pull this technique off with her without her learning to "look before she leaps".
