Today is a day with too many balls in the air. I'm making lists as fast as I can, and the lists are getting longer and longer.

Modern life is a bitch. I have too freaking many things to remember.

While in the tub this morning, I was contemplating Zen Buddhism.

 [Contemplating... Zen.... get it?]

(Unfortunately I do.)

Anyway, I was thinking about the Zen idea of non attachment and weighing the merits and pitfalls of such a philosophy. After a muddled and watery ten minutes of comparison, I decided I prefer the Jewish idea of wrestling with God.

It's messier, I admit it. It's riskier, I admit that too. I might get mad at God. He might get annoyed with me. It happens. But in Judasim, I am engaged with God.

Grappling. Groping and once in a while Groking.

Though I do sort of envy those Buddhists once in a while. They look like they have just heard a really really amusing joke, and can't wait to share it with someone.

The beautific smile of the Dalai Lama is enchanting. Though I don't know if Tibetan Buddhism is into Zen. I plead ignorance. But he does look like he has figured a few things out doesn't he?

Me?

I'm just looking for a new wrestling hold.

The concentration on this search most often puts a frown on my face.

But I'm smiling on the inside.

(Looks like you are gritting your teeth to me...)

I wonder if the Dalai Lama has a ( )?

If the Dalai Lama has a ( ), then they must be on pretty good terms. I'd say he's figured out a lot of important stuff. Maybe not all, but a LOT. At least enough to keep ( ) civil.

And what I like about Zen Judaism is that G-d likes to wrestle.

    Bless

    beautiful jewish yetzirah
although I have followed roman catholocism through life and still do go to the cathedral etc. and once a catholic always a catholic because we are so brainwashed in a devout family

yet still in the very strictest sense of the word I am an atheist because I do not take any bible literally for me god is love and light

but budhism I feel is such an asset to modern western life because of all our false attachments taken on through commercialism and advertising we have created so many false needs that budhism can help us clear our mind and hearts

so now I am eclectic in my approach to religion I used budism but not to the extreme and it has liberated me from my excess wants and needs
and that is what is beautiful about being eclectic and being an atheist is that I am so willing to give up destructive elements of religion whereas a devoted follower accepts blindly all truths

I dont know enough about judaism to know what you mean about wrestling with god but I have adopted the jewish sabbath and the meditation to light a candle and meditate on all I have to be thankful for
this really has enriched my life whenever I have used this meditation and also I think if we all used this meditation there would be far less mental illness around

and let me extend the catholic blessing to you-
and may peace be with you my friend

    I think we all have a ( ).
Most of us just ignore them or don't admit they exist. :o)
    See you tomorrow!

Wrestling with God...... a pastime that goes back ages and ages.

It may well be messy as Jacob learned, but worth the effort in the end. Just watch your hips. God doesn't make it easy.

By the way, nearly everyone has an ( ). Its just that few of us let our ( )'s have a public voice..... they are too hard to control. :)

Yeah, I do like the idea of being engaged in a real and living relationship in comparison to the detached thing. ;-)
