We spent two days at Waterton Lake. We wandered hither thither and yon on foot which was such a nice break from all the driving. It's a loooonnng way from our house to this place let me tell you.
We happened upon a theater one evening in the campground [it was mostly underground like the squirrels]...so we almost missed it... where we got to watch a really well thought out and very informative film about what to do if you stumble upon a bear in the woods. I now feel like I might actually have a fighting chance of coming away from that kind of encounter alive. I hope I never have to use what I learned. I don't WANT to see a bear. They are wild. They are cranky. They need their space. I am more than happy to oblige them.
But there were animals nearby that were much less of a problem.
They were everywhere....

Doing what deer do....

But even with all this kind of fascinating wildlife observations, breathtaking views, stones of unusual beauty, and the absence of car butts, alas it was time to go. So we broke camp as quietly as we could because everyone else was still snoozing and hied us off to the road toward home.
We stopped for a few minutes to take a parting shot....

Thus began a day of driving that I do not ever care to repeat. We drove over 800 miles to Portland that day. Ack! What were we thinking?
We arrived there at about 11 at night by the grace of God, in one piece.
The rest of the trip involved visiting relatives which I won't go into. But suffice it to say I was really happy to put the squeeze on my peeps at last.
And as an added bonus, I got to spend too short of a time with InStitches and her hubby. I promise to stay longer next time! By the way, the view from her place almost rivals what we saw in the hinterlands. And should we ever decide to hold a DD confab, I think it should be at her house.
How do you like that Quilty? I just volunteered you for company of epic proportions someday!
So there you have it. The whole Megillah.
Since arriving home, I have been overtaken by a certain domestic zeal and have cleaned out my closet, rearranged the living room furniture and cleaned it to a fare-thee-well and am eyeing the garden next for errant weeds in unfortunate places. Peaches are ripening. A few have dropped prematurely and are mourned over as is proper.
After clearing out my closet and packing off 5 bags of stuff, I reevaluated my wardrobe and went to the local Goodwill store to round out some colors and bits of clothing to make outfits. I have been making out like a bandit, finding some really nice things for cheap.
But at this same Goodwill store, they have a bin of stuffed animals that I just cannot resist for some reason. Well, in my defence, these stuffed animals are of the highest quality, name brands and cute as a button. The dogs like them and so do I. The big ones cost 99 cents. The little ones 59 cents.
How can I possibly go wrong?
( Well, I can give you a guess right now.....)

(You ever hear of the word 'restraint'? It's right there in the dictionary somewhere near 'ridikkulus')*
*Harry Potter reference, sorry.
Last night I caught Belle trying to chew they eyes off her kangaroo so I got out my scissors and ..... ewwww.... cut out the eyes and sewed up the holes.
I feel phsychologically damaged by this act. It was just WRONG on so many levels. But now it is safe for her to play with.
Oh the things I do for short furry creatures....
(What have you done lately for the Puncutation? That's what I want to know....)
