A Day At The Fair
Mon Nov 03 2008

The Craft Fair has come and gone.

It was an unqualified success, at least at our table.

I cannot say the same for my neighbors, who at one point, broke out a bottle of wine and began to drown their sorrows. [I'm dead serious.] The woman next to me who sold fused glass plates and coasters and pendants, sold ONE set of coasters the whole day.

I heard from the organizer that 350 customers came through the doors.
That is pretty dismal considering there were about 75 vendors there.

However. I did not need to be fortified with wine or spirits of any kind, because of the 29 items I took with me, 17 of them sold! This happened because I cut my prices in half. I wanted these things to move on to their next incarnation. My customers were happy. *I* was rapturous.

Hub Man came with me, stalwart as ever, with his spinning wheel. He spun a little, and attracted a couple of little kids who sat very nicely and got to make the wheel go around. He also arranged the victuals. I ate the best vegetarian burrito EVER. We took notes on it's innards and plan to try to duplicate it at home soon. [Avocados will be involved].

I have a small selection of bags left that are going up on TillyCulpepper at Etsy in the next few days. I have selected a few more that will be gifts for some Granddaughters I know, and one is going to the Goodwill pile.

This leaves me with exactly [1] ONE little bag that will most likely go to someone at my knitting guild as part of our gift exchange.

Here it is. A dice bag. I found the pattern on Ravelry. It was a wonder of fabulous construction. Bravo to the designer.

So you are looking at all my unspoken for stash of finished objects.
I feel so FREE!

I also got two commissions for knitting yesterday. A Calorimetry headband, and a challenge to make a felted purse in the shape and size of a purse that one of my neighboring vendors had. I was up early this morning making notes for ideas of how to pull it off. It could be a snap, or a nightmare. We shall see.

Oh yeah, at the fair there was a table with people from this farm....

Linky

They gave me a ten dollar off coupon. This morning I went to the web site and signed up for a box to be delivered every other week. I cannot wait to get the first one.... This friday it is supposed to appear on my doorstep.

***

I have developed a rather nasty little overuse injury in a joint of my left thumb from doing the purl stitch the way I do. I looked it up on YouTube and found out the official name of the way I execute my purl stitch....
"The Weird Way"

Great.

It's also becoming "The Painful Way", at least right now.

So I went onto the Interwebs in search of something called 'Norwegian Purling'. I looked at forty bagillion videos and looked at as many other directions and cannot for the life of me get mine to come out right. What is SO frustrating is that it LOOKS like if I could learn the blasted thing, it would be the coolest thing since Hershey's chocolate!

Now I'm on a quest.

And the greatest thing about my quest is that this Thursday is knitting guild meeting. There must be someone there who can show me how to do this trick.

Okay. Off I go. Much to do.

[album 65561 GoofyHen2.JPG]I can tell
I am never going to get
any compensation
for the use of my name
at these Craft functions.
Sigh.
I don't get any respect around here.

Congratulations on your successful Craft Fair! Now that your stock has been reduced, you can build up another. Right?

And you got a commission. Fabulous!

    That dice bag is interesting.

We must adapt to times and money talks for those who can see the light.

    Nicely done. :)

Ummmmm,Red? The way I see it, you get free rent and you get to be bossy. That alone is pretty good compensation in these hard economic times. On top of that you get get all the credit because your name is on each of those lovely projects. Perhaps it is you who should be offering up a little compensation or at the very least give she who shall not be named an "atta girl" once in a while. She did good. :)

Dunno if text will help you...but here goes. Take the right needle to the back and OVER the working yarn as if to knit (wrap if working yarn in right hand). Then insert needle as if to purl. Leaving the loop on the left needle (ignore that worrisome working yarn loopish thing!), gently lift the right needle (keeping it in that left loop too!) over and to the back. Wrap or pick the working yarn as if to knit. Move the right tip back over all that stuff to the front (keeping the working yarn wrap in place!), and duck it back under the left loop to the back. NOW you can finally do "off jumps Jack" from the left needle. and look at this while you read this....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XBWX3hJorjM

    Good luck!

Congratulations on your fine sales in these scary times! Way to go!

Oh, and to LRH, you should take what Quilty said to heart. Really, you should, (you little whiner.)

Of course, I don't know, either, what will be in the box, but I wanted to make sure that peppers and okra wouldn't be included. I never learned to like okra, even after seven years in the South, and peppers don't like me.

I'm looking forward to my first box, too.

Wow! Congratulations on your show! That is so fabulous.

So is the dice bag. Somebody is going to be Really lucky, receiving that.

I hope you fix that purl-y problem. My thumb hurts for you!
