Friday Soup
Fri Feb 06 2009

So far our 'rain storm' hasn't been very impressive. We could use impressive.
Alas, what can we do?  Not much.

I took the dogs out to the fields yesterday. This is where the turkeys live by the way. We are surrounded by open areas. There's a regional park and lots of space that isn't ever supposed to be developed.

The dogs are very happy about the whole situation. We are taking advantage of the winter weather to be out here as much as possible. When it warms up, it becomes a tick heaven and you go out at your own risk. Sometimes we do in spite of the ticks and then spend the rest of the day keeping an eye out for the little beasties. There's nothing like the feeling of a tick crawling up your neck to keep you alert...

There are other hazards that don't care about what season it is...

Here is Ben right before he found a wonderful [from his perspective] dead carcass of some kind to roll in.

Whew!  Did he ever turn into an odiferous  canine!  Needless to say, a bath ensued post haste.  Not quite something that was on my agenda for the day, but it was either that or banishment.

Well, I'm off to the kitchen. I've a hankering for some vegetable barley soup. This seems like an auspicious day to make a pot of it.

Oh yes, the engine?  It's perhaps a quarter of the way to its destination. I've been sort of reveling in the fact that without wheels, I spend a lot less money. It's too far to walk to the yarn shop. . .

I own a grand total of 2 cookbooks. The Edmonds one which is totally Kiwi and an antique County Womens Institute one I inhertited that is nearly 100 years old. So yeah, if its not too much trouble could you send me the recipe pretty please?

That Ben is a handsome dog!! I don't think bath time is ever a pleasant thing what with all that fur.

    But where is Sunny?

Do the dogs play in that little stream? Wet dogs can be pretty smelly too.

Just hope all that open land will never be developed. But there's the greed element to deal with. "Oh, lookee-lookee. Bare ground. Whee, we can put up a bunch hastily constructed 'homes.' And make a bajillion bucks, too." Bad cess to them all!!!!

    That soup sounds wonderful!

    Bless

OK, so she's that white blob on the other side of the creek.

I have some barley in the pantry. Need to get some vegs to go with. Sounds like a plan that I need to follow up on.

Thanks so much! Going to raid my lemmon tree and give that a go just as soon as I have had more than 2 hours sleep. Who would have guessed there was even more yummyness hiding underneath?

It must be soup making day on the west coast. I am making a large pot of poultry vegetable. (chicken and turkey leftovers)

The hen is trying not to notice this egregious breach of diplomatic protocol.

Our rain amounted to a few sprinkles on the way home from Y-town, but nothing here at the house.
We shall see if the predicted snow gets here.
I'm not feeling very hopeful on that score.
I keep telling them they new crystal balls, but does anyone ever listen to me?
Blessings on your mechanic. May he get your car running. :o)

I'm glad you have somewhere close by for walking the dogs (and yourself) even if it's not perfect.
