Home Where The Good Seats Are
Fri Mar 27 2009

There is something inherently wrong about sitting on your fanny most of the day.

My body rebels on all levels when I am forced to do this.

Though to be fair, the sitting was interspersed with breaks. How does a three and one half hour break sound to you? That’s what happened when the jury was finally chosen and oops! Now we need some witnesses. OY. Call in the witnesses! We’ll give them 3 and a half hours to get here!

It is a bonus that about four blocks from the courthouse is the downtown mall. I hoofed it down there and ate my lunch in the outdoor area watching some toddlers playing in the playground. It was pleasant enough. But it wasn’t home if you know what I mean. I browsed in a bookstore and tried to find some earrings at Claire's, but they didn't have my favorite kind in stock.

When I finally got back and decided to go inside and knit a while, I discovered there is no such thing as a comfortable chair in the entire building. . .I looked around too.

I was remembering with fondness the soft couches in the federal court house and wondering if I could do my jury duty over there. Heck it's only two blocks away. I’m telling you, it is even possible to lay down and take a nap at the federal court house. I could have used a nap. But alas, I was in the cheap seats at the county court house and had to make do.

The witnesses finally DID show up and the trial commenced.

But here I must stop because of ‘THE ADMONITION’ that we have been sternly warned about many times. So I cannot write a word about the case. And I won’t

“Hello. I am Juror number Four. And I’m not talking.”

(I’ll try to deal with my disappointment.)

Good.

The only really enjoyable part of the day is riding the light rail to and from the courthouse. It is sublime. No parking. No car butts. No fares. They give me free tickets. Sweet!

The good news is that there are no trials on Fridays, so I have a long weekend. Go back Monday, and then Tuesday is a holiday so I’ll get that off. We are told this trial should last no more than 5 days. We shall see.

Today, I plan to stay away from chairs and walk around a lot. The dogs don’t care what I do, as long as I stay here.

Sounds like a plan.

It amazes me how many times you are called to for jury duty! It never sirprises me you are chosen. Hope the trial last no more than the 5 days. Sitting at home in front of ones computer or knitting is one thing. Having to do it at such places as the county courthouse in uncomfortable chairs is quite another! Enjoy being home the next 3 days and moving about where ever your heart desires!

I fear "the call" now that I had to send in the questionaire saying I am available.
I don't wanna, but know it is my civic duty.
I just hope I don't get called for the child kidnapping case that happened in Y-town.
I'm not sure I could be impartial where children are concerned.

    Yeah, I remember those seats.

I don't know what it is about working for the police, but that seemed to bother defense and prosecution. Both of them. Well, I couldn't deny my past employment, now could I?

I seem to be on permanent DNC* because of my hearing problems. Even with the hearing aids. Do you hear me complaining?

    Bless

You would think they could at least supply a pillow and perhaps a pot of tea.

RYN: It is Wool of the Andes, the kettle dyed edition. http://www.knitpicks.com/Wool+of+the+Andes+Kettle+Dyed+Yarn_YD5420167.html Bourdeaux and it might be a little bit brighter in the photo than it appears in real life but very nice. I was going to make some slippers out of that. Now, if I can't wind it up (and I'd be shocked if I could) the remaining skein will be a cowl most likely.
