Ozone In The Air
Thu Jun 04 2009

Yesterday evening we had an out of the ordinary thing happen here.

There was a thunderstorm.

They are not unheard of, don't get me wrong. But they are not that common here, so it was a big deal. I was out for a bike ride in the evening unaware that there was something brewing off to the east. When I got out of the housing development I saw the dark clouds and pretty soon the lightning was flashing. It was still a ways off but the storm decided to shift our way and it moved in kind of quick. I barely made it home before the rain started. Though we never got a downpour, this storm was a real electrical one. The lightning was almost continuous. It was really cool.

We found out that Ben is not phased in the least by a thunderstorm. In fact he rather liked the smell of the breezes that it blew through our yard.

As I rode home on my bike, lots of people were sitting alongside the road, and out in their front yards watching the weather. That was fun too.

Weather as spectator sport.

What can I tell you, I'm not the only one around here who is easily amused.

Here's a small sample of the view last night....

I love a good thunderstorm which I guess is a good thing given that I live in a part of the country where they're a constant companion in Spring & early Summer.

    "Weather as spectator sport."

You betcha! There is nothing quite so fun as a good thunderstrom.

Rumor has it we could get one tonight. I hope the weather gurus are right for a change. We could use a bit of fun around here.

Fabulous pic by the way. :)

Sounds like quite the beautiful sight. I haven't seen lightning strike in a LONG time.

Oh, I doubt I'd get my essay back, but if you remind me any time after June 18th, my last exam, then I'd like to write it as a real short story, just for fun, which I would be glad to share with you all :) Do you think it's an interesting concept?

I could see lightning flashes from every window in my apartment, but never a boom. I wouldn't have known there was a storm if I hadn't wakened in the night.

All windows were open a bit, but only the south-facing windows in my bedroom got wet.

There were pictures sent in to Ch 13 from storm watchers. Quite a display!!!

    Bless

I love thunder and lightning we get our fair share here in PA I just worry as I have a lot of very large old trees on my property which could very easily get hit, but still enjoy a good loud thunder and lightning storm anytime especially at night..
