If We Could SEE The Hen, She Would Approve
Wed Jun 30 2010

I have been waiting to make an entry until our Hamipiks is up and running again, but it seems to have encountered a difficult glitch and is still out of commission. No pictures!? Egad!

This made me realize how heavily I have come to rely on pictures to illustrate my blog...

(Addicted is more like what is really going on.)

Guilty as charged.

(Well, THAT was easy.)

I'm in no mood to argue with you today, so find something else to do would you?

( )

Well, THAT was easy.

I have been on a real purge/binge kick in the last few weeks... No, I'm not talking about eating habits. I'm talking about several trips to Goodwill to drop off bunches of stuff that I am purging from the closets and drawers and shelves of my house. I'm taking a good long look at everything these days and making each object answer some tough questions, like, "Have I even SEEN you in two years?" "Tell me again why I let you take up space in my life?" "Am I REALLY going to use you in the foreseeable future?" "Why are you cluttering up my peace of mind?"

Anything that doesn't pipe right up with a really good answer gets sent on to the great Goodwill bin in the back of Suzie Cube and toodled off forthwith. Now this does not mean I haven't BOUGHT things at Goodwill. Au contraire. I found a really nice bit of real linen the other day and have made two lamp shades with it for my computer room. I found a desirable tea cup made by... oh wait LINK!
New Cup
I have always sort of liked that pattern. I paid 49 cents for it. Then when I came home, I chose one cup from the cupboard that I don't use anymore and put it in the 'take back' pile. I was feeling very virtuous about this strategy until I read on the Fly Lady website that I should get rid of TWO when I bring one thing into the house. Now THAT is real organizational fortitude right there. I am not at that level yet. . . but I aspire
.

I still have some nooks and crannies to rummage through to complete my purging, and truth to tell, I'm looking forward to it because I'll show you some of the rewards of this kind of activity.... a before and after of my computer room.

Before

After

So here's the thing. I traded in clutter for serenity. I found those curtains at Goodwill! So now my rather public .... 'first thing you see when you come in the front door'.... room can now be blocked off if I'm feeling like it. I sat in here last night and listened to a lecture on cd and wrote in my really real diary for an hour. It was sublime. I don't care if it DID take three days to whip it into shape, it is worth every bit of effort to have calm and order.

Something that is sadly lacking in the great 'out there' world right now. I'm doing this for sanity's sake. I've decided mine is worth saving.

(Sorta like closing the barn door once the horses are out don't you think?)

THAT is a matter of opinion. You can't rattle me today ( ). I and my room are Zen.

Your place always looked neat to me, but I do see the difference. What happened to the little sofa that was in the computer room? The blue-check chair used to be in the living room. Looks perfect where it's been transplanted.

Well, now, DD has gone crazy. When I entered my comment, I got the 404 message. So I clicked on the go back button, came up with your entry and my comment, clicked on Add My Comment! and lo and behold my comment showed up twice.

    Now what is Steve doing????

I felt the same way when I converted my old sewing room/junk depository (upstairs) into a well organized craft room. Sometimes I go in there just to drink in the calm that order brings. :)

Oh, how lovely! Not that it was bad before, but now it seems more spacious.

We've got a similar project happening here right now, only in the living room. We were finally able to get my recliner delivered from my mother's house today. It is going to require much more space than the chair it's replacing.

Your office looks great and so like you! Enjoyed the before and afters. Great job. Where did the loveseat end up?
