Smart Sadie With A Side Of Closet
Tue Aug 24 2010

Sadie has proven herself a brave and smart little cookie.

Over the last week she has made tremendous progress in her trust issues. We are now allowed to pet her and scratch her back. Though she IS quite sensitive to bumps or toys that get tossed too near her when she isn't ready for them or even last night when I walked past her on the way to bed, she yipped because I touched the hair on her tail.

BUT, she plays a wicked game of fetch with Hub Man and will come over for a pet on her own now. I don't think she will ever be a rough and tumble wrestle meister like Ben or Sunny, but we have come a long way from 'snap and snarl' city in a very short time.

Yay Sadie!

Over the last few days I have been doing a purge and clean of my walk in closet. I was doing it in stages because it was crammed with stuff and I freaked out just thinking about it for a few days prior to commencing on the project. This morning I reached a critical stage and had a melt down. Had to call Mamallama and do deep breathing exercises over the phone to calm down. I then took a bike ride at 9:00 in the morning to burn up some anxiety hormones.

I came back and dove in once again. I panicked because my closet had 'sploded' into the bathroom, bedroom, and living room by then. I cannot believe how much crap was in that closet. I plugged away at it and finally, by about noon I was mostly done. I just need some help getting bins and boxes back up onto the overhead shelves. I'm waiting for the muscles to get home.

I threw away two bags of stuff. I am taking three bags and a box of stuff to Goodwill, and I have three bags of stuff to give to a certain crafty person I know who lives in the mountains. AND I cleaned out a chest of drawers which will be leaving the house soon to a relative if she wants it, or out to the front yard with a 'FREE' sign on it. [If it goes out there, it won't last the day.]

I am so jazzed to have finally gotten to this chore. And I feel much lighter in spirit because of it. This has been the summer of purge around here for me. I'm going into autumn with a lighter load. Hopefully this will result in more creativity and calm.

I'm all about the calm.

(Yeah, that's why you take in strange dogs all the time. Ones with Phobias. Quirks. Needs. ISSUES. Sure. Makes plenty of sense.)

Why don't you go clean out YOUR closet ()?

(My closet is just fine thank you very much.)

Ha! I've SEEN your closet. It's a nightmare. What? Are you too chicken to tackle it?

I find that statement rather offensive.

Buk up Red. In case you hadn't noticed, this is not a politically correct household.

But we DO have a clean closet.

Where's my colored paper? I can't find my colored paper. Did you take my colored paper? What's in those bags by the door? I want my colored paper!

(I feel a trip to Target coming on...)

I for one freely admit I am too chicken to tackle my closet right now even though it desperately needs it!

I have found of late that purging lightens the soul, helps immensly with the creativity and just plain feels damn good. It is an emotional activity, though.
I can't seem to stop and don't really want to either.
    Purge away, SIL, purge away!
    Hugs!

    (((Big Hugs)))

I have just the remedy for your stress over the closet. Come visit my house. I have building materials in the guest room/den (countertop, sink, tile, flooring, floater pad, paint, primer, microwave/ventahood, etc). I have cleaning products on the antique dresser in the hallway. My basement is the size of the main floor of the house and it looks like a kitchen bloweded up down thar...

What have I been doing? I've been running around like a maniac on crack with paper towels, Windex and duster spray. As *if* that's going to correct the situation.

I had epiphany today. It is what it is. It's not going to go by my military-like schedule. It's going at it's own pace and there's nothing I can do to change that. Other people need stuff done and ours has to wait. I'm groovy with that at this point. Your closet is the same thing. Just think of it as a 'mystery box' and everything you uncover is someone else's treasure so the time is not wasted.

Glad to hear that Sadie is doing so much better. I had no doubt that your calming household has something to do with that. Don't give me guff that your household is chaotic. It is in the same way mine is which is to say always busy but rarely ever truly stressful for the furry kids.

OK, I've written a novel so I should go do something destructive......

    Oh, good news for Sadie!

I took your advice from your comment on my diary earlier and am taking the Flylady approach. A little bit at a time, one project at a time, starting with a small one before moving on to the bigger ones. I'm only a week into it, and I feel better already! My walk-in closet probably won't be tackled for another month or so, but I'm sure I can tackle it when the time comes!

I have a few projects like that, but I think they are going to wait until the weather forces me indoors. :)

If you run out of closets and feel the need, c'mon over.

I went on a something spree today, and had to quit cuz I couldn't move a piece of furniture by myself. Sent in an SOS that hasn't been answered yet.

But I filled a bag with shredded papers that should have been shredded five years ago. Yay progress.

    Bless

Ah yes, Clean Closet Syndrome. I know it well. I call it the "Target giveth and Goodwill taketh away" disease.
