My Solution To The Kobiashi Knit-two Scenario
Sun Oct 24 2010

I am sharing with you the most moody and introspective of the Lake Tahoe knitting retreat photos. A weather front was moving in that day and I got this shot from a new pier that had been built since my last visit.

Tahoe 2010 016

I'm still waiting for Hamipiks to be up and running, so this is from Flickr. I'm not sure what the limit of my bandwidth is over there...we shall see if there are any problems with that. I hope not.

Also I have made a bit of a momentous decision. Here's the backstory on it...

I came home from the retreat with a certain.... determination. I have most certainly been influenced by the whole experience. The knitting mojo was fierce in those hallowed halls, let me tell you.

After I got all unpacked and back into really real life, I promptly dug out my whole yarn stash and rifled through it extensively. This included two plastic storage containers filled with things I have made for the craft fair that isn't happening any more for me. The one that I could go to that was on a Sunday, now costs 60 to 75 dollars for a table. I can't afford that at all. I sat and looked at all my things and suddenly had an epiphany. I think I am being 'blocked' creatively because I know I have all this stuff hidden away in the dark, and I feel enormous guilt at knitting more. Someone asked me at the retreat what I liked knitting the most, and I answered immediately, "Felted bags. All sorts." And I realized I hadn't made one of my favorite things for a long time, because I have these two containers full and I feel really weird just making more and more with no OUTLET for them.

You have heard of Crazy Cat Ladies... well I'm the Crazy Bag Lady. I want to make more. But I need creative 'room' to do that.

What to do?

Well, here's what I came up with.

Every so often, when the mood strikes me. [I'm not committing to a set schedule] I am going to give them away.

Yep.

That's my solution and I'm sticking to it.

Here's how it will work:

I'll post a picture of the giveaway bag or bags [some are very small]... and whoever leaves a comment on that entry will be entered in a drawing for that object. I will give that entry 48 hours or so before I close the drawing. I'll put the names in a hat and have Hub Man draw one out. Then I'll notify that person and announce it on the next entry and mail out the bag or knitted item to them when I get their address.

Now since I don't have an extensive readership, you are going to have a pretty decent chance of winning something over time.

I realize that it is entirely possible that there will be a few people who will win several, and I'm saying right now that the drawing will be totally random. I will not manipulate the outcome if someone wins three in a row, that is the universe's problem, not mine. So I hope that is okay with everyone. If you comment, your name goes in the hat. Period. And what comes out of the hat is in the hands of the random acts of chaos theory... or something.

Agreed?

Oh, I feel lighter already! You will be doing me a big favor by letting me send my work out into the light of day. I think they need some AIR. They need to BREATHE. They need to see the world!

(I think I hear cheering from the storage boxes... I must tell you, this disturbs me.)

EVERYTHING disturbs you.

I hear grumblings from my boxes, too! It is a wonderful idea to let someone else enjoy your lovingly created treasures.
