Solar Visitation
Mon Mar 28 2011

I feel very much like a mole must feel who gets rudely turned out of his house by the spring plow.

The SUN! The SUN! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

It is shining brightly today and it's not raining. It's not even THINKING about raining.

I have laundry hanging on the line, the tomato seedlings got exactly 72 minutes of real sunlight out on the back porch, and I'm planning a foray onto the tarmac later in the afternoon with my bicycle.

I hear tell it is supposed to get up to 80 degrees on Thursday.

Is that possible?

It's almost noon here and it's 55 degrees out there.

80?

Really?

If that happens, we are all going to probably have some kind of allergic reaction or something. We may all fall ill from the heat. I can't wrap my head around it.

(I can imagine that WOULD be difficult for you, seeings as how your head is quite, quite small. And you do realize you are blogging about..... the weather? I mean really, don't you have anything more substantial to discuss?)

But the SUN is out! The SUN!

(That must have been a very large and aggressive plow....)

Did someone say plow?
We aren't setting out those tomato plants are we?
They aren't properly hardened off yet.
I won't agree to any tomato planting at this time.
And that's an end to it.

I don't think I like tomatoes.

Do I like tomatoes?

(Kid, the list of things you don't like to eat is so long
that even *I* can't keep track of it.)

I don't think I like tomatoes....

I hope we get a chance to find out if you do or not. But with the crazy weather, I am beginning to have serious doubts about gardening this year.

Serious doubts.

They claim we are to get to 60 degrees and see sun sometime this week. First they said Wednesday, but now it has been changed to Thursday. I'll believe it when I see it.

Gardening? We are 10 degrees below normal and some are predicting it will be that way until July.......each plant would need a hat and scarf to prevent leaf loss from shivering.

Oh and a note to Little Miss Sunshine: Yes, you DO like tomatoes. They are those pretty red things that are such fun to snack on when you are playing in the garden. They are especially nice when they are warm from the sun. :)

I can hardly believe what I'm seeing outside-- sunshine!!! I'll be taking the puppies for their first stroll through our lovely little park today. We may even walk over and see the fountain, if they are good puppies.

Little Miss Sunshine, I know you LOVE tomatoes! The little pear tomatoes can be squeezed from the bulb end and the seeds will shoot out through the stem end and go as far as six feet! Then you pop the rest of the tomato in your mouth destroying the evidence that you've done anything at all. If you do it just right, the neighbor kids' Mom will be picking tomato seeds out of their hair for weeks! Try it sometime! It's a lot of fun!

Congrats on the weather! We had some brilliant days last week. So much so that we both got a little crispy working on the deck. Then it started spitting snow again *rolls eyes*. Today was better after a rather rocky 17 degree start.

Gardening around here has been weird the last couple of years. Year before last we never got warm enough for anything in the garden to produce well which is very strange in this neck of the woods. Last year the temps hovered at 115 (heat index)for weeks and everything burnt to a crisp no matter how watered or fussed over. Hopefully this year will be a different story.

We had a large, yellow, shiny UFO hovering over Seattle today for a few hours. I'm pretty sure it's a precursor to an Alien Invasion.
