I haven't mentioned it much.
It only seems to make it worse if you discuss it.
But it has been 100 degrees here for a few days, and in the upper, upper 90's the days before.
We have all been suffering from lack of sleep and baked brain syndrome.
Well, that all changed late this afternoon.
I was taking a nap… trying to catch up on my sleep…. when I woke up because something felt different. It took me a few moments to figure out what it was.
The sun had disappeared.
I went outside to find a thunderstorm brewing.
Sunny, who needed a bath in the worst way, was quickly hauled out to the yard and we did the deed. As soon as we were finished, the first drops of rain began to fall.
After a few false starts, the show got under way.
It thundered. Lightning flashed. The power went out. The rain poured down. We had hail. Then it calmed down a little….. took a rumbling breath…. and started all over again!
I sat at an open window on the calmer side of the house and watched in wonder at all the rain coming down. The house cooled off for the first time in days and days.
When it was over, we had gotten 2 1/2 inches of rain! What a blessing!
Though there was a little damage in the garden.
The butternut squash took a beating from the hail…. poor thing.
But I am expecting to be able to HEAR the garden grow tomorrow. There's nothing like real rain to encourage lots of growth in a garden.
You have heard the term "gully washer" in reference to a lot of rain, right?
Well, this is what it looks like:
When it was all over, and the sun had gone down, the sky started to glow… I mean it really put on a show!
No, that's not smoke from a fire, just mist up by the creek.
Everything looked special. Even an ordinary gate took on a certain air of artfulness.
By the time all the drama was over with, Sunny was dry and looking all fluffy after I brushed her out.
She looks good in the glow of that pink sky eh?
I think we will all sleep good tonight. It's almost chilly!
Bliss!
