Slowly but surely, my canning jars are getting filled. I looked at my remaining jars and realized I may have to buy a dozen to finish up preserving food this year. Now there's a blessing right there…. I've heard that our wild blackberry vines around the valley haven't done very well this year. Not sure of the real reasons, but some say that the weeks and weeks of smoke from the big fire we had near us could be the cause. So I'm not holding my breath over gathering a lot of blackberries… though I would dearly love to find enough of them to make at least one blackberry pie. It just doesn't seem right not to have one before winter gets here. I might have to settle for an apple pie. Those we have. Yesterday it was pears. And as you see, I have more to do when they get a little more ripe. Pears   I've had a very busy and sort of stressful week. I'm very glad to lay down the reins for a day and contemplate the condition of my soul. Yom Kippur starts tonight, and for any of you reading this who observe the day, may you have an easy fast. And may we all have a good and sweet new year.     lime wild
