Move Over Campbell's
Mon Sep 16 2013

I really do more than canning. Honest. I did laundry and hung it on the line yesterday. That counts right? [BTW anyone know where to find really GOOD clothespins nowadays? Mine are not working out. Too flimsy and small. I need some serious clothespins. Workhorse clothespins. ] Anyway, I have done other things besides hover over the kitchen sink and pressure canner. But I'm too tired to remember what those things are right now. However, it's just not nice to whine about a bountiful harvest from a garden you worked in all spring and summer. So I won't AND I even have enough tomatoes to share. My SIL came out here this morning and picked a box of them to take to HER kitchen where food is being preserved. We are all food preservers around these parts and we have the sticky kitchen floors to prove it! Veg Soup   Everything in this vegetable soup came from the garden. Amazingly, though they have been out of the canner for over an hour, they are still bubbling inside. Pressure canners do weird things to food. The nights are cooling off. I gave serious thought to building a little fire this morning. I put a sweater on instead. Turns out that was a good idea. It warmed up pretty quick. But I AM going to fill the woodbox this afternoon so I'll be ready to build one tomorrow if I take a notion. I wonder how long it will be before Bruce is pressed into service every day again? I think I'll go down to the wood shed and clean things up. I want to be ready. Speaking of fires, I am planning on buying a nice area rug to put in front of the wood stove this year. I spent a lot of time standing in front of the fire to warm up. I think I'd like to be standing on a rug. Write that down…. :-)   lime wild

looks wonderful, and you will be so happy you have done this. Just don't be like my long-departed Grandmother who had so many (old) jars of canned veggies that when she died they had to call the fire department to "dispose" of the "toxic waste" -- I kid you not, stuff 15+ years old or more in the basement. I hear you on the clothespins. I have a friend who won't buy "made in China" and found that there are no non-plastic clothespins now ... maybe Amish country? But we are not near there. You need to find an estate sale :)) and then you can maybe find a real tin bath soaker, too. See, we think about you all the time ROFL

Beautiful soup and so much better than all those chemical-laden things in a can. These clothespins from Lehman's have mixed reviews, but are far less expensive than the other sites..... still, are probably better than the ones made in China. https://www.lehmans.com/p-2396-large-wooden-spring-clothespins.aspx
